Tulane Class of '17 Admitted Students

getmein, I had a bit of a weird situation. I had originally started my EA app on the Tulane/Gibson application but ended up completing it on the Universal College app. I called admissions back in early Nov. to ask them to delete my website app so it would stop sending me e-mails asking me to complete it and so that I would have a proper Gibson login. Unfortunately that did not work and I did not have a Gibson login that read anything but an “incomplete application” until today. I called admissions yesterday to ask if I could receive an updated portal as I had been told prior by an admissions intern via e-mail that my application was complete, and I was instructed to e-mail admissions and ask for a new login. After doing so and also e-mailing my admissions counselor, I received an e-mail this morning stating that my Gibson login was correct and that my status had been updated, meaning there was a malfunction with Gibson. I checked immediately after I received this e-mail and I had been accepted.

Son was accepted today!!

Current School: Phillips Exeter Academy
SAT’s: 1840
GPA: 8.4 on a scale to 11.0, not sure how it gets weighted but all classes are considered Honors with some considered to be at college level. 10.8 GPA in Fall Term that ended mid November.

Wrote a very compelling “Why Tulane” essay. He wants to major in French and the French program at Tulane was a HUGE draw for him.

Congratulations, ExeterMama! Is Tulane his #1?

ExeterMama - It is a very strong program at Tulane. My D took many years of French in high school, switched to Chinese at Tulane but didn’t want to lose her French so has taken a number of classes. She could end up with a French minor, not sure yet. Anyway, she has been very pleased with the classes. I think she is gearing up for a class that teaches the techniques of translating works, and there were a lot of prerequisites before she could take it.

FYI, in case you didn’t see my answer on the other thread, the merit only comes in the paper letter. It is not on Gibson at this point.

LINY - yes! It is his number one!

FC - Thanks for the info on the French program. Son just spent 10 weeks in France (fall term) and had an amazing experience. He’s now fluent and taking advanced linguistics and literature courses at Exeter. He’d love to be an Ambassador to a French speaking country one day. He also loves the fact that he can take classes in French Creole at Tulane as he’s got Hatian roots.

So excited!

He’s also been accepted to American University of Paris but Tulane is his #1!

Oh, that’s interesting that he has Haitian roots. You probably already know this, but Tulane has some very strong ties to Haiti. That should work out very well for him.

His goals sound similar to those my D has entertained from time to time. She still isn’t sure, but another reason she kept up her French is in case she ever wanted to work at the UN. For some of those jobs you have to know 3 languages, one of them can be your native tongue. At least that is what she was told, I have never looked into it personally.

D in at Tulane-EA

Applied very late due to Sandy but it was up on Gibson today.
Completely shocked but relieved.

That’s great nyermom! Why completely shocked?

Big reach. And they needed to look at her app. holistically–which they clearly did. A year ago, I never would have thought this could happen.

Well then, that is really great holiday present! Tulane obviously saw someone they think will be a valuable presence at the university.

alright now im really ****ed. just went through all of the people that got accepted and i was definitely more statistically qualified than many of these people and i got deferred!!! sorry for the rage im just really angry right now. pay no attention to this…

Same here… Deferred ughh Tulane was my top choice

Sent from my iPhone

Yes, FC, Tulane’s ties to Haiti are a big reason he wants so badly to attend!

Have any of the accepted students received an email with the ‘admitted students’ link on the Tulane website yet? I don’t think my son has, but he also doesn’t check his email every day (whose kid IS he??).

Mavitale, my dd has not but she only got accepted a week ago.

MaVitale-I dont think that has happened yet.

I haven’t gotten my admitted students info yet, either. Admitted with Presidential, though! Very excited, and I applied for Paul Tulane today. Hopefully I get it, 'cause if I do, I will most definitely be attending Tulane next year.

Also, question: I see a lot of people with access to Gibson already, but I don’t have it. Is that the Admitted Students portion, or am I missing something? My admission decision came via the mail and everything, so did I just skip a step of registering for something somewhere?

Wonderful, tmichael. Best of luck. Which two prompts did you pick?

I chose “Describe the events of your day on Sunday, May 14, 2017, the day after you graduate from Tulane.” and “All you need is love. True?” Without going into too much un-requested detail, I actually sat down at the beginning of the week to write the toy and ghost prompts, so it surprises me that I completely changed my focus for this scholarship a week before it was due and feel that what I produced for it is the best I could have.
