Tulane Class of 2023

Congrats to your D, @1923girls!

i recently wrote an article in the school newspaper and got invited to join the newspaper team. would that be something significant? @proudmama2016

@yoelijah

These are Tulane’s wait list stats for Fall 2016 and Fall 2017, taken from College Board, Big Future, for first time applicants seeking entry as freshmen:

Offered place on wait list: 10,384

Number accepting place: 3,111

Accepted from list: 2

You will find your place and thrive, whether Tulane or elsewhere.

Congrats to everyone accepted ED II, I can’t wait to join you all in the fall! On a sidenote, does anyone know if we are able to request roommates? I have a friend who got in as well and we want to room together but I wasn’t sure if this is possible or if Tulane only does random.

@Labmama Yes, we are registered for the second Honors week end. I was explained that only kids that make it to that round will be contacted to set up an interview. Will see how it goes, she will be submitting her essay when she gets it together. There are so many essays that she still has to write

BaboA - you are spot on although i would suggest that you were actually generous with the two slots off the waitlist lol. If you look at the Common Data Sets the last cycle they took anyone off of the list was 2013-2014. Last years hasn’t been released but from everything that was implied they didnt take anyone either. So in all honesty it appears Tulane hasnt taken anyone off the waitlist in five years. So while possible that changes this year, anyone “waitlisted” really needs to figure out another alternative.

Frankly, in order to be able to be more precise in their numbers and avoid over-enrolling another class because of rising yield, Tulane probably needs to have been more selective in the early rounds and then use the waitlist to fill out the final spots. Something needs to change in order to avoid this issue again with this class.

@4kids4colleges congrats! See all that sorry over them being need aware was for nothing!

@collegemom9 yep! I thought about PMing you to let you know! Very excited and relieved! Still waiting for FA however…hopefully it all works out!

Thinking back, the AO said to me they are need aware but “will not hold it against you.” Maybe that means they are mostly need aware for the full pay people? That would make sense, especially for ED. Thanks & best of luck to your family with Emory. We loved our visit there.

@4kids4colleges thank you! Best of luck on the FA stuff. I’ve heard really good things about Tulane with their FA and I’ve also heard they are very good with working with families in subsequent years. I’m sure your son is thrilled and happy the process is over!

There’s an over-enrollment problem that schools can’t control: When far fewer current students fail to withdraw than expected. Schools estimate from past experience how many students will not return in the fall, even after paying deposits. When “too many” returned one year at our school, where freshmen are guaranteed on-campus housing, some upperclassmen had to be “bribed” to move to off-campus housing.

Agreed, but that has not been Tulane’s main driver of over-enrollment, it has been a yield that they acknowledge has been rising faster than they have anticipated.

Thank you for this info

Financial Aid info on the Gibson Portal for daughter now, and unfortunately not realistic

@college130 I am expecting the same. If he gets one of the competitive scholarships, he can go. The merit that he got so far will not close enough of the gap. Attending Tulane would be so amazingly wonderful, but we are not able to pay. I will not allow my DS to take on more than the federal student loans, and we will not do any PLUS loans. We have our budget and will stick to it. There are two more kids behind this one.

Hoping hard and praying for that miracle, but realistic enough to understand our situation.

Elody - good luck. We are literally in the exact same position. Will have 3 in college at same time in her senior year, so not going to shaft the next two or let her bury herself in debt. Who knows though - we’ll see if any additional $ comes along for Tulane. Hope it all works out for you!

@yoelijah YES, that would be worth sharing. It’s hard to brag, but you were recognized for a talent. Share it! Good Luck!

@zgreen247 Rooming will happen later in spring, but the good news is that you can request to room together. Just be aware that they might convert your double into a triple if your class is large and they need beds…

@college130 was Tulane’s FA offer completely different from what its net price calculator says? Is it anything close to what your EFC is? We are waiting for FA on ED2.

@proudmama2016 if they convert it into a triple does that still include communal bathrooms like the other basic double dorms or would that be a different type of dorm?
