Did you just get the email reminding you to apply for the DHS or PTA? It was making us wonder if they held off acceptance decisions until they received the scholarship application submittal. Been wanting to ask that question. Thanks for asking.
I got that email too and I turned in my app 10/31 and started a DHS and PTA app but not completed it yet.
I’m so anxious. I know my D’s stats are excellent (1510 SAT, 3.9+ uw GPA, 13 AP classes), with very good EC’s (imo) and probably excellent recommendations. Her teachers and gc love her. However, her app has been complete since 10/17 and she has not heard anything. Yet, several other people we know in the area and from her school have heard. And in this discussion thread I’m seeing lots of people with apps completed more recently than my D’s that have also heard. We did not visit the campus, because we were advised by the Tulane admission office to save the trip for Destination Tulane if we had to limit our travel. Instead she attended a local presentation and met the admission rep when she came to her school. The weakest part of her app is probably the why Tulane essay because she didn’t have specifics. She doesn’t have any close friends that go there, and she’s never been to NOLA. So her essay was more about hoping to have the opportunity to experience all the great things she’s heard about and read. She’s sent her admission counselor some short and enthusiastic emails following the two mass emails that went out the past couple of weeks to EA applicants that have not heard yet, but she doesn’t want to keep emailing and being a pest. Is there anything else she should do other than be patient?
I got the email too, and was accepted last night. The emails are simply sent to everyone who has applied. I received emails detailing the different application options, etc. and was quite worried, thinking this was a sign I was rejected or deferred. However, I was accepted into Honors College w/ Premier Scholarship. With some people, it just takes longer than others. I know it’s hard to wait, but that’s all that’s left. In the case of the most recent email, they’re just trying to remind students. It may be hard, but don’t read so deeply into these emails, as they are sent to everyone. I hope you all get in! #rollwave!
Am I the only one who didn’t get that email today?
“It was making us wonder if they held off acceptance decisions until they received the scholarship application submittal. Been wanting to ask that question. Thanks for asking.”
The emails are just spam to all who have expressed interest and/or applied.
My kid has already been accepted. Today got an email encouraging her to apply to Tulane before the EA deadline passed. Also got an email saying that, since she had applied, she should consider applying for the merit scholarships.
@G8tr2mom My stats are a similar to your daughter’s, although my app was completed on 10/8. My friend, who attends the same high school as me, was admitted yesterday. Her GPA and test scores are not as high as mine and we have similar extracurriculars. She’s a slightly better writer than me. I attended a local information session, but she didn’t visit the school or attend the session. Her app was submitted 2 weeks after mine.
There’s nothing we can do, really. Just have to be patient and wait. The deadline for them to notify us is 12/20, so we should all be pleased if we hear something prior.
@theringoinfinite - thanks. Of course, you are right. My daughter is not nearly as anxious as I am. I love that the young applicants are keeping their cool and giving good advice, while us moms are losing it!
Got in EA last night. Presidential scholar and honors program. 2220 on SAT an 4.0 unweighted and 4.5 weighted. Two other girls from my class got in EA last night also. All of us have similar stats. Two other girls who applied who had similar stats and submitted their apps around the same time haven’t heard yet. Everyone I’ve talked to who got in yesterday got a scholarship of some sort, so the decisions given yesterday could have had something to do with scholarships.
I applied EA all the way back in September and still haven’t heard anything. I have a 32 act (33 superscored althought I know they don’t superscore) and a 3.64 UW (roughly, my school doesn’t show our unweighted GPA’s so i tried to calculate it) , 4.03 W.
Also, which days do they post the acceptances? Monday nights? Or every night? I need to know when to check out the portal!
@natalieleon ussually acceptance are sent out Mondays at 7pm CT. But keep in mind that you may hear back in Dec. Good luck
@G8tr2mom @theringoinfinite With such high scores Tulane might be viewing you as using this as a safety. Did you apply EA or ED? Tulane will often defer those with the highest scores thinking they applied and would prefer to go elsewhere.
@DebmomNY - I’ve heard that. But I have seen acceptances on this thread with similar or higher stats. As far as my daughter goes, Tulane is pretty high up on her list. She only applied to a handful of schools. And can really only see herself at three. She’s done everything she can to show interest, except for visiting campus. So, we wait… I’m sure in the end, everything will turn out the way it’s supposed to.
@G8tr2mom - It’s impossible to figure it all out, but I have seen this happen in the past. I believe Tulane is trying to maintain their stats. Those high stat kids who get accepted ED elsewhere are expected to withdraw their other applications. Usually those who get deferred with such high stats can continue to express interest and get accepted soon after the Dec ED notification date for the Ivies.
That actually makes sense.

GraterMom – could be high stats PLUS lack of demonstrated interest (as you described in post #402).
Google up “Tufts Syndrome” for an explanation of what might be going on. But no way to know for sure.
If that is what is going on, there’s plenty of time between now and May 1 for your kid to get to know TU better and to convince the admissions folks that any offer (if made) would be very likely to be accepted.
Just wondering, have there been any rejection letters yet?
I applied EA right before the November 1st deadline. Anybody know when these decisions will be posted?
Got accepted EA the other day. 33 ACT, high grades but bad ranking due to type of school i attend (56/289). Really great ECs, good essay. 30k scholarship, premier scholar I believe is the title and the honors program. Super excited.
@bkablik24 decisions are made on a rolling basis, and not necessarily in the order they are received. They will be posted each Monday at 7pm ct.
