Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

I’m guessing we’ll be waiting a while because D didn’t apply until the 15th. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get her to do the Why Tulane? question because she was completely overwhelmed with her huge IB lang assessment and her rehearsal schedule has been crazy. I’m guessing that will hurt her chances quite a bit since there are so many qualified applicants who did that part. I’m wondering if her arts supplement will help? If anyone wants to give feedback you can view it here:

@elena13 When my D submitted her application the end of September, she had just written a few paragraphs for the Why Tulane? It wasn’t until we read this thread that we realized that the Why Tulane? was supposed to be an actual essay. My D rewrote it as an in depth essay to why she wanted to come and emailed it to her admissions counselor last Monday and was accepted this Monday. Based on her stats not qualifying her for a scholarship, I believe rewriting this got her plucked right out the “hold” pile in my guess. Also, I think doing the ZeeMee page made a difference. That is also a link you could send to the admissions counselor I would think.

@elena13 - I concur with wpk321, if Tulane is really a school that your daughter is considering, please have her sit down asap and write a sincere Why Tulane. Even a couple of paragraphs will do. She can mention her interest in the theater department (I’m assuming that this is her area of interest). Do a little research into recent productions and mention how she can’t wait to be a part of this. She can email it directly to her admissions counselor with a note saying that she has already submitted her application but would like to add her Why Tulane essay. You can find your adcom here: http://admission.tulane.edu/counselors/
A ZeeMe page would be perfect for your daughter, she can upload photos and videos of her productions. BTW, I watched her portfolio. She is very talented.

@GAcollegemom6 great thanks!

@wpk321 and @jozuko those are good suggestions. Thanks! Actually, D would like to major in English and maybe political science, but she would definitely like to be in some theater productions. Thanks again!

So I have been accepted and I was wondering if I should attend Destination Tulane. I would rather visit earlier because my spring is usually pretty busy but would it be just as good doing a regular visit instead of DT or is DT something I cannot miss out on?

@jnc127 You can miss out on Destination Tulane, however you may not meet as many accepted students. I don’t know how it works at Tulane since I have just been accepted like you, but my brother went to the equivalent at Penn State when he was heading off to college and was able to meet his roommate (he did not have a roommate but met someone at their accepted student day and decided they wanted to room together). I would recommend it if you’re available, but don’t feel that it’s a necessity. The main difference is that DT goes a little more in depth than regular tours, such as sitting in on a class, and is all students your age, instead of a mixture of HS students.

@jnc127 @allison1225 DT is for admitted students. It is NOT a Must Do. If you have already decided on Tulane then seeing a group of students who are not sure will not help you. The Must Do is orientation. This is when you meet other students who will be attending with you, and you pick your class schedule for the fall.

Although this isn’t about Tulane, I got my first acceptance today from a small all women’s college with a 28k p/year scholarship and an invitation to compete for a full ride! woot woot! It’s great to finally start hearing back from places, yall i was starting to get worried :))

Hello!! I have been anxiously reading this feed since I applied to Tulane and it seems as if people are very concerned about showing interest. I have visited the school, gone to a presentation near me, and I wrote a very thorough Why Tulane? essay. I almost applied ED but at the time I was hesitant only because I can be a bit indecisive, although I really love Tulane. Is there anything else I need/could do to show greater interest or is this just my nerves talking??

@zca333 I think you’ve got it covered. Just the nerves. Good luck!

at this point, you are on a good track. maybe send your regional admissions officer giving an update on your activities or ask a question about the school. they make note of each email and sometimes sending an email is enough to remind them of your interest

I just wanted to provide some quick information/reminder to everyone wondering about ‘showing interest.’

Contrary to popular belief, the counselors don’t necessarily make note of every email. It is important to remember that the counselors are really swamped reading 20,000+ applications in one month, so unless you have a major update or need to add/fix something in your application, emailing them will only slow things down at this point. An email about minor activity updates or asking a random question about Tulane that doesn’t really mean much to you won’t do anything for your application. Don’t get me wrong, I bet the AO love hearing your accomplishments and love for Tulane. With that being said, sending an email just because another applicant sent an email and got accepted is not benefiting anybody.

I know many schools will tell you that it is important to show interest, but sending a non-genuine email is not necessarily the best way to show interest. It is clear when your email is not genuine.

I apologize for the bluntness of this post, but there was a lot of back and forth going on in this thread, with a lot of false information. I hope this clears some things up.

Feel free to take a look at this blog post on the topic about sending certain emails to admission counselor:

Any acceptance letters yesterday or today?

They should come out tomorrow, let’s hope for the best!

Decisions only come out Mondays at 7 p.m. CT, right?

The past pattern appears to be mailing acceptance letters every Thursday and updating the Tulane application status portal every Monday at 7pm CT. However, no one has announced early receipt of acceptance letters this week on Friday or Saturday. Hoping for the best tomorrow.

Did anyone else get another email about the EDII option? Does this hold any meaning or is it just an automated email to everyone who applied EA?

I got that mail too, I hope that doesnt mean we are deferred.

I received that email as well. I’m hoping it was just a mass email sent out to every applicant who applied EA providing alternative options- fingers crossed.
