Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

@ZBlue17 no i am from new york. my gpa is a 99 w (ap classes only, so for ex. im taking multivariable and organic chemistry this year which are above ap level but arent considered weighted classes). my act is a 35 and yes i wrote the supplement.

@momv60115 I don’t really think you should worry that because of high stats she wont get in. I have pretty much identical stats to your kid, and I was accepted! I think as long as she wrote the supplement and was genuine in her interest, they’ll see that. For me, I made sure to write about specific clubs/activities at Tulane and a specific lab I wanted to work in. Also, I don’t know if they track this but I had never visited nor attended an information session. Good luck!

@cereal3 I submitted SAT subject tests and got in. I have applied EA to 10 schools including Tulane and RD for Yale, hence why I needed the SAT subject tests.

@Yeah I am number 1 at my school with a 108, so that sounds about right. It seems like our schools are very similar. I have managed to keep all my grades above 95, with most at 98 or higher, but most of my friends get B’s and C’s in the classes. In the past two years, the only non AP classes I’ve taken are Honors Pre-Calc, 2 years of gym, and 2 study halls, which were necessary for me to take 2 science classes each year. I also took band for two years, and due to weighting it really lowered my GPA.

My son has filled out the why Tulane essay, had real life examples in it along with what he would like to do for extra curricular… He has been to visit, and put a lot of effort into the scholarship. He feels like he has done the best to his abilities. He has an interesting activity he wants to do there.

Sorry, meant to tag @fun1234 in my last post

starting to get really frustrated with Tulane!

So my sister got a letter from Tulane today, not opening it, but I was wondering if anyone else got a letter recently?

My s got in with subject tests submitted so I don’t think that theory holds. Perhaps each counselor only admits a certain number early since it is by area. Not sure. Sorry. I know you will all be ok no matter what happens. I’m sorry you have to go through this wait.

@fun1234 Is your son a senior this year? You don’t have to list first choice for NMF until spring so you know where you are going. We left it as undecided for now.

@Sportsman88 He is hasn’t listed it for that reason

There’s no hard/fast rules about this. It is all shades of gray.

My kid was accepted pretty quick with high stats and also subject tests. But also had a sibling who recently graduated Tulane and so also had a very strong story for Why Tulane.

I can see that subject tests would be a “tell” that the kid is applying to some Ivies or other highly selective schools. But don’t you think that the TU admissions folks will guess that anyway just by seeing the high ACT/SAT/GPA stats?

I think the amount of “Tufts syndrome” that goes on at Tulane is probably over-stated. But if you do get deferred like that, you’ll have plenty of time to convince Tulane that you’d be likely to accept an offer if one is made. From Tulane’s perspective, deferring some kids in this way makes a lot of sense as they go from 40,000 applications to 1600 enrolled students.

He left it undecided

Roger. Just wanted to make sure you realized he had time. I was confused on that at one time.

How does the portal page change when a decision has been posted?

Chuckiem- Please do share what your sisters letter said or contained.

I got a big envelope from tulane today, thinking it would be an acceptance. turned out to just be financial aid info…

We got a big one yesterday and it was an invitation to apply. LOL

@lourveamerican It could a sign he hasn’t got that. We did some financial aid forms, but they never send a list of other things needed other than Fasfa and css profile.

@lourveamerican I got that thanksgiving weekend when everybody got those acceptance emails. Was sure it was an acceptance so waited all day for my family to get home to open it. Such a let down.
