Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

deferred ea

My daughters was deferred. She is upset to say the least.

Any tips on what to do next? She has a 3.5 gpa unweighted and 4.5 weighted, college courses and APA classes. I believe 1290 on the new SAT. She did two paragraphs for the essay. Do we know if she can resubmit the essay? Or only resubmission of her grades.

Oh wait just kidding, I was deferred!

Here are my stats in case people want to compare:
GPA: 3.75
ACT: 29
Teacher recs: great (I hope)
CA essay: great
Tulane optional essay: pretty good
Interest shown in the school: none (hadn’t toured etc)
School applied to: Freeman School of Business

hope this helps, good luck to others deferred, and congrats to those accepted!

@blueblue01 @tlockemy I think the best thing to do is to try to get those test scores up and to try to continue showing interest. Sending an email to your college counselor, visiting campus, following and contributing to the social media pages of Tulane, and retaking the SAT/ACT to bump it up just a bit can only help. Let Tulane know that you really want to be there, and let them know you’re willing to improve test scores to help make your application stronger. It’s not over until it’s over, and a deferral just means that they still aren’t sure and they need to see more from you!

Also if I applied for the Deans’ Scholarship and the Paul Tulane scholarship will I still be considered if I was deferred?

Deferred. I’m really sad. 30 ACT and a 4.3 weighted GPA! MY why tulane essay was pretty good and I made a supplemental ZeeMee and I thought I had a good essay! It’s a little upsetting when many around you get in even when they were using it as a “safety”, but everything happens for a reason! I wish everyone the best of luck in their college search!! Don’t give up, work hard, and you’ll end up where you’re supposed to.

Deferred:
GPA: 3.95 UW, 4.19 W
ACT: 33
SAT: 2180
APs: 5 Chemistry, 5 US History, 4 English Language
Subject Tests: 800 Math 2, 790 Chemistry, 760 US History
Interest shown: None
Essays: CA was very solid, Optional was decent
Applied as a Chemistry major

@blueblue01 Yes! You will definitely still be considered, @fallenchemist posted something about that to the class of 2019 page:

“Obviously it would be a little odd and awkward to congratulate someone on receiving a full tuition scholarship to Tulane when they hadn’t even been accepted yet. So they went ahead and processed the admission package of these students, and now they have received their DHS packages.
Make sense?
And btw, because I just cannot resist, those of you that were so sure that if you got deferred you couldn’t win a DHS or PTA: I TOLD YOU SO!! Sorry, but I just had to. I took some grief from some people for being overly optimistic when I said they had just as good a chance as accepted students. I hope I can remember this post next year when the same thing happens. I am going to repeat this last paragraph on the DHS thread.”

Hope this helps!

Thanks @mushu123 - she is dealing with the hit now and her pride is hurt. I hope she will fight for it, but only she can make that choice. @blueblue01 - my daughter Jasmine also applied for the Paul Tulane scholarship.

Deferred also. Tulane id definitely my top school. I’ve toured, followed all of the social media outlets, and I thought my essay was pretty good. My ACT is definitely not where I want it to be, so I plan on retaking it. For deferred applicants, are we resubmitting our entire application, essay and all? Or just the grades and new test scores?

Deffered ugh

I was deferred with 2330 SAT, 800 on two subject tests, 3.93 uw gpa, great ecs (international film awards, served on museum advisory board, curated national museum exhibit, internship with sony, 4 years on varsity sport team), stellar teacher recommendations. Very disappointed it wasn’t enough for Tulane, but congrats to everyone that was accepted!

Deferred EA
Here are my stats in case anyone wanted to compare:
Legacy (dad went there)
2120 SAT
Subject scores: 770 US History, 730 Literature
AP Scholar with distinction: 4’s on US History, Lit, Euro, Psych, and Art History (self study). 3 on World History (freshman year)
EC’s: Founded a chapter of an honor society, president of local library club, secretary of NHS, board member of Model UN, student government officer, etc.
Did optional essay
GPA was good, but not great. Maybe that’s why I was deferred. 3.7 UW (estimate), 4.71 W, top 10% of class.

Yeah, i am very confused on how to go about submitting new test scores and semester grades. Do i do it through email?

deferred, 4.0 gpa and 1500 sat, a bit surprised tbh since this was a safety for me

@ambitionsquared I’m fairly sure that you were deferred since they probably think that you applied to Tulane as a safety and they want to see if you still show interest even for RD. Your stats are more than enough.

I’m very confused why I was deferred honestly :frowning: I have heard that they defer people with higher stats for EA sometimes, figuring they would not end up going there anyway. Is there any truth to that?

@DangerDoctor Im not retaking any tests, but I would resubmit new test scores through act or college board just like the first time. Just send additional score reports. Also, have your guidance councilor send your transcripts the same way they did the first time you applied, whether that be through naviance, or email, however your school does it. I will be doing the same thing, and Ill probably email my admissions officer after to confirm that they received all of my new material.

deferred. honestly i just feel like they didn’t take enough time for each application. personally i will apply EDII maybe it’ll help give me a boost. Anyway good luck to everyone else.

What are the chances of being accepted fro RD? I just got deferred EA. I’m from a large public school in CT and in the top 6% of my class of 530. I’m really interested in Tulane, and had really good essay responses. What do you think my chances are?
