Tulane Hotel Suggestions

Can anyone recommend a hotel in New Orleans for a new Tulane student and parents? My son has been accepted and will be attending in the fall. We stayed at the Iberville Suites last fall, but were not really happy. Anyone have a better idea?

The Hampton Inn on St. Charles is a very nice Hampton - not as low in price as the Iberville. Just stayed there. Others that I have been told of: Maison Dupuy, The Columns. This question has come up before here, so you might search the Tulane threads.

I agree with jmmom - recently stayed at the Hampton Inn on St. Charles and it was very nice and very conveniently located about half way between Tulane and downtown New Orleans. It is right on the trolley line which is also very nice and has a nice little lap pool. We enjoyed it and plan to go back if Tulane is my daughter's final choice. We're down to two!!!!

I just looked for the old thread and couldn't find where it ended up. I started it when my husband and D were going to visit. probably sometime in Feb. It was after the switch to the new forum but it isn't on page 2.
They stayed at the best western st. somebody. Can't recall just now but I will try to remember. They liked the location and the inside was all new. Easy access to the streetcar. They would stay there again. If I can ever remember the name

Found it.

Thanks everyone! I remember seeing the thread a few months ago but could not find it again.

Son went to Honors weekend and that settled it for him. I will now have a child on the north border of the US and one on the south border of the US.

Lots of travel!

My son and I just visited during Tulane Days. It's now tied for 1st place with one other school. The Admission speech given by the President was the best Admissions address I've heard after visiting
over 30 colleges between my college freshman daughter & senior in hs son.

This time we stayed in the Iberville Suites. While it was certainly nice enough, I think I preferred the Hampton Inn on St Charles. Since we spent several days being tourists, the Iberville Suites is in a decent location on the edge of the Quarter. However, if I was going just for "move-in" or primarily a Tulane based trip, I'd stay at the Hampton Inn. It's nice, closer, cheaper and also includes a decent breakfast.
Plus the birds in the lobby are entertaining :)

Yeah Scot Cowen could give his speeches in McAlister Auditorium without a mic with his voice. Big man, big booming voice.

Agreed about Dr. Cowen. His job is PR and marketing, and he's a real pro. Not even the president of the little regional uni where our son visited a long time ago as a named scholarship winner bothered to speak to the kids there.

New hotel question: We are set for Move-In and the first Family Weekends--have to be if you want first or even second-choice hotels. (Hurry if you're going. The Iberville was already out of "Tulane rate" rooms for the latter.) But for later, we have a probem we hope someone can help us with. We want to travel with our dog, but we hate cigarette smoke. Most hotels that allow pets put them in smoking rooms. The Ritz and Iberville might not do that, but I won't be paying their $100/night pet fee, either.

I swear our dog bathes and smells almost as good as we do! (No comments, please!) She also gets proper treatments so that bugs are never an issue, so are there any hotels anyone knows of where they allow such pets to stay with people without putting them in smelly rooms?

Thanks! Our son will want to see his "little sister"!

ctymom - Sorry don't know about the dog issue. Will keep my ears open.

Am planning to make our hotel res. today for the same events, but wasn't sure I have the dates right. Are you assuming kid needs to be there Sat 8/27? And Parents' Weekend begins Friday 9/30?

I'm planning to arrive in August on the Thursday night, so Friday can be for shopping. Am I on the right track with dates?

ctymom: google "pet friendly hotels", they will give you a list of hotels, their policies, and fees (if any). I show Great Danes, so it is a necessary. Also, all Motel 6's take daogs with no fees. While I would rather be at the Ritz, I have found every Motel 6 I have stayed at very clean and dog friendly.

CD

Thanks! I will certainly check out the Motel 6 info, as what I have gleaned from the results of Googling so far has not been promising. Hotel Monaco sounds fabulous, with their pet package, but it should, at those prices!

Tripadvisor reviews sound a clear warning against some other, more wallet-friendly spots. So your suggestion is welcome!

jmmom, you're right about those dates.
