Tv....

so, I am trying to figure out what size TV to get. Unfortunatly the smallest one we have a home is 30 inches and I really dont want to buy another one. Is this going to be too big?

depends on where your dorming, in one of the halls with the smaller rooms, i dont think thirty would be too big but it would be big. Otherwise I think 30 isn’t a bad size at all

im in Smith. and Im not an economy so hopefully itll work

30 is pretty big for a standard double. It will either take up most of your desk or most of your dresser. Consider this too: nearly all standard doubles have the dresser, bed, and desks of each student lined up along the walls on either side (triples have weird layouts). That means that you may have to turn your tv completely sideways on your dresser in order to see it from your bed or risk having to sit at your desk with it two inches from your face. A sideways 30 is pretty inconvenient, but it’s up to you.

If you have the ability, try bringing it to move-in, setting it up, and figuring out if you want to buy a smaller one there. If you do, then have your parents take it back home. Not the greatest for your parents, but it’s better than regretting.

Also, TALK TO YOUR ROOMMATE. It may sound all fine and dandy to have two 30 inch TVs show up at your room on move-in day, but it can become a problem depending on who you live with. You should figure out with your roommate if you’d rather sometimes lose the fight of what you want to watch because your roommate is using the tv, or if you’d rather sometimes have to keep turning up the volume on a show you’re watching because your roommate has the celtics game blaring but isn’t actually watching it. Personally I prefer the former because it also gives you more control over having the tv off when you go to sleep, but again, it’s up to you to decide.

yeah I already talked to my roommate who said that they can only bring a DVD player so I decided to bring the TV.

are we unable to turn the dresser to accommodate the viewing angle?

It depends on your room layout. If for instance your room looks like the ones in Speare (in orientation), then chances are turning it will cut into your roommates side of the room a decent amount by hindering the walking space, or it will block a lot of the window. On the other hand I know of two people in Smith who had doubles in rooms that used to be forced triples, so they had plenty of space to do whatever they want. That’s why I’d advise testing it out during move-in.

okay that sounds like a good plan. thanks!
