Hi,
Can someone explain to me the whole deal with u.c's and majors like for example do my chances to a u.c such as davis or san diego change if I apply in a competitive major such as biological sciences oppsed to like wine studies lol something which isn't as popular? And how big of a difference does it really make in the u.c system as a whole. Also, are some school major depedent and other aren't? can some explain what major dependent is lol. Thanks for helping the noob.

UCLA admissions are not major-dependent within the College of Letters and Sciences (CL&S), but its admissions are definitely major-dependent for the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS), the School of Arts & Architecture, and the School of Nursing, as well as the School of Theatre, Television and Film.

COLLEGE RANKINGS FOR UCSD
John Muir:1, Earl Warren:2, Sixth College:3, Eleanor Roosevelt:4, Thurgood Marshall:5, Revelle:6

how are my chances with that considering I have a 3.95 GPA and a 1810 SAT with 710 Biology 610 Math

I believe UCSD's average admit SAT is almost 1950 and average admit GPA of 4.04 UC GPA. UC Berkeley and UCLA have almost 2050 SAT averages for admits. UCLA's average admit GPA is approx 4.12 UC GPA and Berkeley's is 4.17 UC GPA. These three schools seem to be reaches for you as your GPA is approx .1 away from UCSD's average admit and .2 away from Berkeley and UCLA's average admit and your SAT scores are approx. 130 points below UCSD'a average admit and 230 points below Berkeley and UCLA's average admit. The other three mid-tier UC's (UCI, UCSB, UCD) should be a match or better for you.
