Hello, I am quite anxious about the upcoming early action decision. I would like to know roughly what my chances are for acceptance and deferral. I have an amazing teacher recomendation, I graduated with a 4.15 gpa, earned awards (like the presidents volenteer service award,) had all As from sophmore year to senior year taking 7 AP classes and 8 u of m flint classes (via early college program.) I have a 4.0 u of m flint transcript and I also wrote very strong application essays. My areas of concern are my 29 ACT score (with 11/12 essay) and that I did not participate as much with in school clubs as I did with out of school activities (like powerlifting, guitar, working.)
I am very grateful for anyone who would take the time to respond. I know there are many other applicants with similar credentials who could benefit from this discussion. Thanks again.
Good luck to you! GPA is the largest factor in admission. If you are deferred, you should take the ACT again in Jan/ Feb and aim to add a few points.
What is your uwGPA? ACT 29 is low even for in-state. @TooOld4School, there is no Jan ACT and Feb 10 is too late for RD. I hope OP has a December score pending.
@billcsho , wouldn’t the scores be back by March 1 or so for the February test?
@TooOld4School The RD deadline is Feb 1. Test score must be received by application deadline to be considered.

@billcsho , The OP applied EA, so Michigan already has the ACT score. Assuming the applicant is deferred and not rejected, the OP can submit updated information prior to the RD decision date.
@TooOld4School Not sure when is the decision date for RD as it is rolling, although they tend to announce the rejection later. Also, the deferred application would not indicate a February score pending. For the October score in EA, it is self listed as pending on the application so the adcom knows. After all, the Feb test itself is after the application deadline, which is different from the October score for EA.
Hi! I’m a 11th grader and I moved to India for highschool(Due to family reasons). I’m an American citizen and I used to live in Michigan. I would like to know the chances of me getting accepted.
I had to take the IGCSE’s in the 9th and 10th and I did pretty awful(i got an overall of a 72%) 4b’s and 2c’s(and another 2C’s in 2 optional subjects which I will probably not send in)
I’m currently doing the IB program and I’m taking Biology, chemistry, psychology(HL) and french ab, english, and math (SL). I get 6’s and 7’s in most of these classes.
I’m aiming for a 32 ACT as of now, and I’m working on my subject SAT’s.
My predicted grades for the final IB exam is above a 38
Apart from these, my extra-curriculars(for highschool) include
-president of the debate club
-chaired an MUN and won 3 awards in total
-qualified, classical dancer
-shadowed surgeons
-writer in the school newspaper
-apart of a restoring nature campaign
-teach students in rural areas how to public speak
we don’t have the GPA system here,
Anyways, people say that U of M is not easy to get into and the statistics have proven that too. It’s my “dream school” nonetheless.
I would like to know if I have a shot despite my 9th and 10th grade scores since I was extremely new to this country and the subjects which I was forced to take.
I’m interested in doing pre-med by the way.
Thanks!
