Can I get into UMich?
I am a freshman with a 3.96 GPA. I recently took the PSAT 8/9 and got a 1310 out of 1440. I got a 670 in reading/writing and a 640 in math. If I continue to do this well do I have a good chance of getting into U of M or Georgia Tech’s engineering program?
It is way too early to tell but based off that PSAT score you would get a 1450 on a 1600 scale. You would most likely want to bump that up to 1500+ to be safe. Also your math section should be much higher since you are applying for engineering. Both schools r competitive as heck and are looking for people passionate in engineering. So just do things that interest you and your passion will show through.
Thanks, how many extracurriculars should I do? I’m currently wrestling and playing soccer. What should I add besides sports?
Well it depends on what field of engineering you are interested in. A good start though would be to join your high school’s robotics or scioly team
Okay I’m interested in aerospace how much would an internship at a car manufacturer help?
If you can get a job/internship with a car manufacturer as a rising sophomore in high school you would be silly to pass it up. You can relate your experience back towards engineering principles afterwards.
It is too early to say. Are you in-state or OOS? At the rate Michigan is going, the OOS acceptance rate should be around 13% in three years.
I am in state.
@krinis While it is good to be thinking ahead, don’t plan out every detail of your high school experience. You’ll miss the fun and a true opportunity to find your path.
Do well in your classes
Challenge yourself with rigorous coursework
Find your place in athletics / clubs / arts in your school.
But most important - explore!
It’s rare that what you choose to study in 9th grade will be the same one listed on your college diploma.
krinis, the acceptance rate for in-state students is unlikely to change. It has stood at roughly 40-50% for the past three decades. Maintain a good GPA, take challenging classes, pursue an extra curricular activity that you love, have fun, and read…read…read!
