I am 23 and currently a student at Southern Illinois University. I am hoping to transfer to U of Washington in Seattle. I am not sure what my chances are of transfering into this school.

I am 23. I am a male. Half Mexican and half Yugoslavian.

My GPA is 2.65 and I currently have 21 credits in general education classes.

I also have some from a community college but I did not do so well for personal reasons and not enough to really be worth mentioning. These are not included in the 21 from SIU. (6 credits in all of 15 credit hours worth of work. 2 different semesters.)

I have not taken any SAT/ACT exams or anything of that nature. I am also a high school dropout with a GED.

I started taking school a little more serious now then in the past and am hoping to do one more year at SIU before hopefully transfering to U of Washington.

My question is what exactly are my chances of getting in if I get decent grades and raise my GPA up to a 3.0 or so? Should I take an ACT/SAT exam? I am trying to fulfill their requirments for the equivalent of a high school education (namely the language one) meeting all their general ed. ones specifically.

SIU was lenient because of my age and let me get in without a GED and SAT scores. Is U of W like that or are they very strict when it comes to their admissions requirement?

Any info is much appreciated.

If any more information about me is needed to get a better assessment I will provide it.

UofW is a more competitive school than SIU, but I certainly think it's doable.

I would take the SAT or ACT anyway, just to show them that you are taking the application seriously. You might also want to consider applying to a few other schools. Why the interest in UW?

Just sick of being in SIU. U of W looks like a wonderful school and is in a big city that is not Chicago. I wanna get outta the midwest for now. I been here 23 years minus a couple of summers and there really isnt anything here for me. But it looks possible?

As well as I am trying to have a friend establish residency for me. I plan to get a DL, a CCW Permit, and a bank account in Washington state. I assume these documents will allow me to claim residency. I am not sure how long it will be before I start school there if I get in and would like to know if I can slip by the residency requirements for instate tuition.

They will see the date of your last attendance at SIU on the transcript. As for you chances of admission, UW stopped automatically taking CC transfers even with good GPA's. There is a space crunch of sorts. It may be a reach with a 2.65 GPA even though SIU is not a CC.

Thanks. I figured the residency was a no go. However I figure with a higher GPA my chances are better. I will be applying soon. I plan to get a few letters of recomendation to go along with it.
