I was wondering if anyone here had any experience applying to McGill as a homeschooler. I submitted my application in November and uploaded/sent all of the required documentation well before the deadline in February. My application has said "Further Review Required" for months. The decision date was April 4 for applicants from U.S. high schools, but apparently I don't qualify.

I applied to the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. I thought I had a good chance of getting in. I have a 4.0 GPA at the local community college (dual enrollment), 23 credits at said college, a great recommendation letter from a college professor, and high SAT scores. (I won't mention extracurriculars because they aren't very important to McGill.) I'm just getting so anxious waiting.

SAT: 700 M, 730 R, 760 W, total 2190
SAT II: 800 Biology, 760 Math 2, 780 Spanish w/ Listening
(also passed CLEP Calculus and French)

That’s the problem. I check it every night and it still says “Further Review Required.” I even emailed them about a month ago asking when I should expect a decision and they replied that while they have set decision deadlines for other categories of students, a homeschooled student falls outside of those categories. I was hoping that maybe another homeschooler could tell me when they got their decision.

Did you give them updated final homemade transcript (made by your parents) with course details/descriptions? It would seem that you lack something and your status is like you are in limbo.

I submitted my application in mid December, submitted the last of my documents somewhere around early or mid February, and was accepted towards the end of February. Somewhat interestingly, they accepted me even though my reference letter never arrived at McGill (I’m still not quite sure what happened to it, the teacher at my community college who wrote it told me that he sent it, but it never showed up at any of the universities I applied to).

Firemylasers, thanks for your response. Were you homeschooled?

Another thought occurred to me. Sometime in April they asked for an additional document that originally wasn’t on my list. I added it the very next day but it was already past the deadline when they asked for it. Could this make my application appear to be late?

Yeah, I was homeschooled. I’ll PM you the email address of an adviser I talked to a few times - she was able to answer some questions I had about applying as a homeschooler, so maybe she can help you out too.
