Last year, the student section in the South end Zone stopped at S-6, but now it extends to S-8! And look how much of the new South Upper Deck is going to students! Of course, some of this new seating makes up for the loss of seats that comes from the creation of the new “Zone” for the big donors in the south end zone, but with the alotment of these sections, for the students, UA is more than making up for that small loss. Good news.

I doubt freshmen will get a full season because there will be over 5000 freshmen this year. Instead, I think more freshmen will be able to buy half sets.

In the last previous years, some students weren’t able to buy any sets. If they continue to offer half sets, more students can have some tickets.

Besides, tickets to every home game are usually available, thanks to the donation process that students can participate in. My son got tickets to every game last year.

Momreads: can you explain how that works? D was looking at the schedule the other day & we’re figuring that the Florida game & the Penn State game won’t be in the same package. She’d LOVE to go to all the games, and I’ve looked at the rolltide ticket site, but it’s just not clicking for me.

Freshmen can purchase either Package A or B, but not both. Last year, my son got Package A, which included LSU. Since he wanted to attend the other games, he put his name on a waitlist days prior to the game. Sometimes, he got a ticket immediately. Other times, he did not learn until late Thursday or Friday that he had a ticket.

You should receive an e-mail in May that outlines information about the ticket plans. Tickets go on sale June 1 for the incoming freshmen. Since June 1 is a weekday, a parent may need to handle the ticket purchase for the student. I did that last year, as my son was not near a computer to purchase his tickets.

Officially, we have no news of what the ticketing policies will be next year. There is still the issue of paper tickets vs. ACT Cards and of possibly offering both freshmen and sophomores the half season packages. With the expansion of the student section, more students should be able to get tickets. According to the Crimson White, there were reports of some problems with the ticket donation system, but I got tickets for every home game that I didn’t already purchase donated to me, including the LSU game 3 hours before kickoff.

What I would like to see changed is that for playoff tickets, UA should go by total credit hours rather than earned UA hours. So that those who transferred in, studied abroad, or are not extending their college education to a 5th year will be able to get playoff tickets.

Sea_tide, you are absolutely right about going with total credits rather than UA hours earned for postseason tickets. But I would agree with you, since you and my son had so many credits entering UA, thanks to AP and dual enrollment.

Does anyone know if some of the Greek reserved seating will be moved to the upper deck, or will they dump on the Independents and place them in the Upper Deck? How in the world will they handle who has to sit up there? The last students to show up for a game?

I’d imagine that’s how it will be done Atlanta. Late arrivals get the upper deck. Looks like they gave the 1st couple of rows up there to faculty and staff to prevent any possible problems with students throwing things down on the Zone seats below. Those Zone seats are $2000 + ticket cost so I’m sure they don’t want any problems.

I’d be shocked if they moved the greek block seating to the upper deck. And I wouldn’t necessarily say they dump on the GDI’s. The early arriving GDI’s get better seats than the greeks get.

I was a greek so maybe my view is skewed. Either way, I don’t want this to turn into a greek - GDI debate :-)

I would like to eventually get rid of block seating, and have them do what Penn St does. Student seating by class. Worst seats go to freshman and then you move down the sidelines as you go up in class, ending with the best seats for Sr’s.

Hmmm, that might be a plan that works. My point was that if there is to be student seating in the new upper deck, then let the late arriving students, Greek and/or Independent sit up there. This business of Greek pledges reserving seats till there later comers arrive is absurb and creates division. If an organization can’t show up on time, to help pump up the game day atmosphere, open it up to anyone. And the UA needs to crack down on Greek goons who dare to intimidate people from sitting in “their” section.
