UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@lindyk8 That’s kind of what I figured too. I don’t really see one school being significantly more competitive/difficult than the other when they are so close in the rankings.

@Evilcow867, read this:

Generally though, EECS majors collaborate a lot and have a very exclusive community among themselves so making good friends is imperative. In that sense it’s pretty cutthroat, but I find that EECS has nothing on the mixture of dog eat dog and crab mentalities of freshmen and sophomores fighting for a Haas spot…those poor souls are in a special comedic hell. :))

In all seriousness, Berkeley in general doesn’t spoonfeed you and a lot of people interpret that as “letting students wither” which I can understand. You really need to be a self-starter to survive here. I find that the ‘once you stop bleeding, you’ll realize you’ve learned something’ line is very accurate.

@fncrane Session C is much better than session A, but I’m really looking forward to the Fall!

I’m planning to do a one-year transfer (graduated high school June 2015 with a lot of AP credit (~33 units))

Major: Business Admnistration (Haas)
(Major) GPA: 4.0 (I took classes in the Summer so I could apply with some grades. My GPA is expected to remain the same with the Fall update)
EC’s: Finance Internship at a small startup
Private math tutor
Future Entrepreneurial & Investment Foundation
Business and Economics Student Association
Piano

Working on personal statements, they should end up pretty good.

IGETC and prerequisites will be completed by Spring 2016

@ccctransfah not looking good bro

:c

@CCCtransfah Someone posted stuff about one year transfers a few pages back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18734677/#Comment_18734677

You may also want to look at this to see if your AP credits will actually be honored by UCB: http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/aplist.html

@Evilcow867 Thank you for the links. I already talked to a Haas counselor regarding my scheduled transfer plan and I’m set for applying!

@CCCtransfah yo I’m a one year transfer too. We def turnin’ up HARD if we get in.

@EECSProdigy Did you just invite them to our party without asking me? Dude…

I’m kidding of course, if we get in everyone is invited.

Ye we should def have a party for the ppl that get accepted.

Has anyone started their essays yet? I’m having trouble thinking of a good topic, as I live a somewhat boring life.

I’ve started mine. I have my topics, but I’ve always found it hard to write about myself.

I told myself that I would finish a rough draft in the week that I had between summer session and classes, but I never got around to it. I have a vague idea of what the essay will be like, but we’ll see.

How much are we supposed to sell ourselves? I don’t want to sound full of myself in my essay but at the same time I want to impress the adcoms.

Writing those essays was about as pleasant as hammering nails into my face.

So do transfers tend to dorm together?

@csmajortom It’s a very fine line. Definitely talk about your strengths, but do so in a subtle manner - don’t make it sound at all like you’re gloating. Probably the best thing to do is write it out, read it to see if you come off as pretentious at all, and then modify it accordingly.

@CCCtransfah It depends. Some do, some don’t. Sharing an apartment near campus is much less expensive than living in the dorms, and it’s just as nice/convenient.

I’ve started with ideas on mine, but not sure really what stories to tell.

I have a lot of really interesting angles and I just don’t know which way to go with it.

@CCCtransfah oh, if you meant that, of the people who are transfers and are dorming, then yes transfers tend to dorm with eachother (to my knowledge, at least)
