Your 4.0 means less if you have to “strategically” drop classes to “maintain” it. Admissions sees through people like you easily, and those people are often rejected.
@AgentXJP what’s your source? Just curious.
@goldencub, I was reading the 2016 uc berkeley thread, and saw that an anthro major named “kitkatt611” (you could find him by typing “anthropology” into the search bar, second page) was rejected from cal with a 3.7ish gpa. He also posted his stats, and it seems he was solid, with legit ec’s, work, finished igetc, etc. Any idea as to why he might’ve been rejected? I was really surprised after seeing this: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
because it states the average transfer gpa for anthro was a 3.6-3.9. Does anyone have a link to the updated transfer statistics chart?
@genieforuboi I can’t find it. I saw where “kitkatt611” posted her stats, but I don’t see any replies saying shegot rejected on her profile. A 3.7 makes one competitive, but it’s not a sure thing. It’s possible that kitkatt611 didn’t finish all the prereqs available to her. Again, because I can’t find the post saying that she was rejected, I’m not even sure that she was.
Use this as a rough guide: https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof15_mjr.htm
Remember that Berkeley admits by division in L&S, not major. Trust me, though - you have nothing to worry about.
Chance for me
Major: EECS
GPA: 3.91 (1 B in GE and 1 B+ in writing class)
Major GPA: 4.00
prerequisite: two more classes (Chem 1C and Linear Algebra), I will take both next quarter
EC: Officer at engineering club, do robot project. Math and physics tutor. Join honor program and take some honor classes
Personal statement: I am working on it, I think I am doing well on that
About myself: international student, first generation go to school

@kid1234 I think you have a really good shot at it, even I would say you are in.
Since you are international student, they’ll just forgive two B’s in GE and English course.
English is hard for you; they must think, so therefore, you are almost in!
@ericeo No source, but Berkeley and other UCs reject a lot of people with 4.0s according to the stats. The 4.0 students who have to drop classes that require work to maintain their 4.0 are more suspect.
Hi everyone! First post, so if this is the wrong place, sorry in advance.
I am an international student and is currently studying in my home country(I don’t wish to mention it). I wish to transfer to some ‘academically rigorous’ university in either North America or Europe, that is ‘highly’ research intensive. I would be grateful if you can please list the names of such universities that accept ‘international transfer students’.
It would be a bonus point if the university provides some sort of scholarship/aid.
Thanks in advance.
P.S: It would be amazing if you could also post the link of their transfer admissions page.
@TheChange Do your own research and then come back with specific questions, not to mention this thread is specifically about Berkeley for this year. It’s clear you haven’t researched anything for yourself yet. Quit being lazy.
When you do your own research, come up with questions, and post in the correct thread, you’ll want to include if you plan on transferring from your home country or from a community college in California.
Not trying to sound rude, but if you want to get into a top school, this isn’t the mindset you can have.
@briank82 I tried searching about various universities globally, and I was very confused. Many universities are not even clear whether or not they accept international transfer students. So I made this account just to clear this confusion. I already know which university is better for which major and what research goes on there primarily. So i am not lazy, i was just asking for help.
What my biggest mistake was, was to ask here on Berkley transfer thread and i apology for that.
Plus for your information, I am not desperate to get in some ivy league school. I have more to contribute to them than they can ever give me(not trying to sound arrogant).
@goldencub, I’ve read forums for other schools such as UCSD, and they said sd doesnt really care about the personal statement. I’ve seen some posts with people saying that the UCSD university representatives at their schools explicitly stated they dont use the personal statement for admission purposes but solely use the GPA. They also referenced this to back up their claims:
(If you scroll down it says which campuses use the personal statement and which dont)
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/transfer-admission-matrix.pdf
I was wondering if you could tell me from your experience whether or not this is true.
Also, I’m going to be tagging to UCI and I was wondering if any school that one “tags” to will even consider the statements. Will I be good as long as finish the course requirements?
Sorry for the long question, its because the new personal statement requires me to talk about my major. I’ll be applying to la, cal, sd, and irvine. But since I’ll be applying as anthro to la and cal, and as econ to sd and irvine, I wanted to focus the “major” part of my essay solely on anthropology if sd and irvine dont care about the p.s at all.
@kid1234 where are you enrolled now?
@genieforuboi The information on the transfer matrix is correct. I don’t think the change from personal statements to personal insight questions will change anything there.
UCI might read your PS, but if you TAG then you’re guaranteed admission, so it doesn’t really matter. @briank82 wrote about Berkeley’s Business Administration program in his personal statement, and he got accepted to all UCs he applied to (even in different majors), so I don’t think it matters much.
SD doesn’t read the PS, so you’re in the clear.
I go to De Anza college in Cupertino, does it matter ?
@wormandcandy
@laccstudent Do you think the community college I go to matters ?
@genieforyouboi in terms of which UCs are reading the new personal insights, it got changed this year. All the UCs to which you are applying read them. The five that read them now are: Berkeley, UCLA, Merced, Irvine and San Diego.
And the page you were linking to (2014-2015) had only four listed. There are now five, which I think started a couple of years ago.
@kid1234 It doesn’t. But make sure you go to a school that has all the classes you need for your desired major at your desired school.
@Ohm888, okay, but if I’m tagging to irvine, it probably wouldn’t matter if I talk about a completely different major in my essays right? Because I think the tag acceptance doesn’t count the personal statement at all, but only coursework.
Also, I’m gonna be going “all in” for la and berk, so my personal statements are going to only focus on those two schools. I mean, even though my essays would be irrelevant to the majors I’ll be applying to san diego and irvine as, I’m sure they won’t reject a 3.9-4.0 gpa student on the basis of their essays right?
@briank82, it it true that you wrote about berkeley haas in ur personal statement and still got accepted to all UC’s you applied to? Did you just merely mention berkeley in your essays, or did you completely tailor your essay to only make sense to berkeley admissions?
