I don’t know where you guys are eating at, but there are tons and tons of cheap places to eat, where you can get a meal for $12 or less. Just go to just about any restaurant on Durant or Hearst. Or downtown on Shattuck. If you go into Gourmet Ghetto the price gets higher but not tremendously higher.
@GoodAfternoonSir haha that’s true. They are keeping themselves busy until the 19th. Maybe we need to pick up a new hobby? ?
I’m a first-generation college student so I don’t have any family to talk to about this whole experience. I really enjoy learning as much as I can about the process from everyone on here. I’ll take all the tips and tricks I can get. Lol
@fullogiggles hey! i’m also applying into Media Studies! so do you mean that even if you don’t have all the pre-reqs completed, you can still get accepted, just not as a Media Studies student but you can take the pre-reqs at Cal and then declare the major?
@anne123456789 good luck getting in! That’s essentially what the advisor for Media Studies told me. As Ohm said, to get into media studies you need Media 10. It seems like you can only take it at Cal.
I’m a bit worried about my personal essay for it Cal because it wasn’t directly related to the major (every UC I applied to are all different majors) but we shall see.
Is there any chance anyone out here has more info on the major of Media Studies? I know this is a silly question as I applied, but I’m curious for more info about it since it is so interdisciplinary.
@Ohm888@fullogiggles@anne123456789 I’m not sure I understand about taking Media 10 at Berkeley. If you’re transferring from a CCC isn’t there a Media 10 equivalent course you take as a prereq before applying to Berkeley? Or are you just referring to students transferring from schools that don’t have an approved Media 10 equivalent. For example, I’m from DVC and I completed JRNL 110. I’m so confused…
@dwayneee If you were lucky enough to have a cc for that course then you’re fine! Most student’s don’t have that option. I live in San Diego so there were no near by colleges that I could have gone to for that course. I’m not sure about the details for everyone, but for myself, I would need to be enrolled in Media 10 in the fall and then apply to the department to be enrolled in the major. I think it would be an easier transition for you though. Good luck getting in!
@dwayneee there are a few CCCs that have the equivalent of Media 10. I remember finding it somewhere when I was a student. It was at Foothill or somewhere like that but I didn’t take it. If you did, you likely will not be pre-MS but a direct admit.
@ohm9888@fullogiggles oooh okayy good luck you to both!!! I was just worried that they would immediately not accept me because I don’t have ALL the pre reqs completed. I go to NYU right now and a lot of the classes that are pre-reqs for Media Studies don’t have like a direct “translation” at NYU so I’ve been taking classes basically praying that Cal will take it hahaha
I’m going to Coachella Weekend 2 for the first time, the first day is April 19th and while I won’t be around to check the minute they come out, I’m wondering if I should even check at all that weekend or just wait until I get home?
I don’t know how much will power I will have, and while I’m not even sure what school is my top choice I could see the acceptance/rejection effecting my mood positively or negatively.
@fullogiggles I think it’s up to you, but I imagine that it would cause a lot of anxiety either way because even if you don’t check you will be thinking of checking (knowing that their decision is out there).
