@GoodAfternoonSir I’m sorry, that is a bummer. Yes, I could apply for housing but we currently live in a little standalone house with a fenced in yard. It would be difficult to move back into a complex situation on campus. Plus we’re only a 30 minute drive away so it’s very doable to commute.
Thanks everyone who responded to my question about the cal day email! I feel a lot better now lol
I know a chance me at this point is completely useless but I would really appreciate some honest insight so I can start getting emotionally prepared for next week not going well lol.

@halpmehxd someone posted this, which is useful for chancing yourself. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
@imstressin thank you! But do you know anything about the importance of prereqs? That’s my main concern
@halpmehxd I have no idea. But in the application there was an area to state anything you felt wasn’t on the application, did you explain you didn’t have access to those courses through your cc?
@GoodAfternoonSir I think you did not read all the related information. For example, it is not easy to switch your Mom to a dependent on you whereas you have no income but she has. What was her tax status last year and this year? The dependent is defined by tax law, not by our saying. In case you want your Mom to be your dependent, there are many tests to check, but one of those is that you must provide more than half of her expense whereas she cannot make equal or more than $4,150. How can it be?
I agree with others that you can live with your wife, but not your Mom. You can check with the adviser in the school you apply, but should start to make an alternative plan for housing.
@imstressin no I didn’t do that it definitely would’ve been a good idea lol
@halpmehxd That would’ve really helped if you did make those additional comments on your application. They’re going to check out the articulation agreements anyway and see that no courses were compatible with the college’s.
Quick question, did you complete philosophy related classes at your school?
Also, do you know what’s a “decearing egg”? lol
@GoodAfternoonSir yeah I’ve taken all of the philosophy classes offered except for two lol.
And YES hahahahahahaha
@Glycogenolysis my daughter is a sociology major as well. Is Cal your first choice?
@ashleymp As of right now there’s a bunch of parking in the Ellsworth structure!
@willowstil thanks!! We arrived early and are here now.
@2dwayne3904 The directory won’t update for admitted students; only those with an active Cal affiliation. Some professors and lecturers didn’t even have their name in the directory for a while.
@GoodAfternoonSir There might be something about 4/20 that discouraged UC Berkeley admins from hosting it that day…
@halpmehxd I think your Stats are great, especially the extracurriculars! Btw congrats to the UCI Regents! I also apply to UCI and my decision hasn’t come out yet… Kinda nervous lol.
@Emmanuel7 thank you!! Best of luck to you
Is anyone trying to transfer from 4 year university?
Just got back from Cal Day! Such a shame they aren’t having another one for transfer admits cause there was so much useful information.
Some highlights/notable things:
-The students from the transfer programs were especially helpful, they were so eager to give me all the resources they could and tell me all of the things they wished they had known going into Cal. I didn’t get to visit the transfer center but they all told me it was a great place.
-The number one thing I heard from transfers is that they felt lonely/isolated at Cal until they joined the transfer community and found friends with similar experiences, and then they were much happier
-The transfer residential hall (Maximino Martinez Commons) is super nice, very modern, two blocks from campus
-Also all “on-campus” housing is actually off-campus (either a few blocks into the city or up in the hills behind campus)
-You have to apply to join most clubs and the spots can be competitive, but there’s 1,000 student organizations so you should be able to find something that interests you
My favorite things I learned:
-There are courses called “DeCals” that you can take for credit, but they’re taught by other students. There’s some wild ones, like a class about Kanye West, but also some really useful ones like Medical Spanish for healthcare careers.
-At the top of the Campenile, there’s an instrument called a Carillon (it’s like an organ that controls a series of 61 bells) and three times a day, someone plays it. Sometimes it’s a world renowned Carillon player and sometimes it’s a student that took the Carillon DeCal playing the Office theme song
Obv I’m just a measly attendee but if anyone who wasn’t able to go has questions about Cal Day I can try to answer them
@hych12 I applied to UCB HAAS from Pepperdine.
