UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Hey guys, current Spanish major here. I’m a little bit anxious because I will currently be missing the last pre-req in the lower division Spanish sequence (aka Intermediate Spanish 2). For Berkeley, I’ll also be missing a culture class (which was not offered by my community college to begin with). As a language major, do you think I’ll be fine missing a couple pre-req classes? Especially if Spanish is not necessarily an impacted major. Right now I’ve got a 3.6 GPA with IGETC completed and solid ECs. Just trying to find some peace of mind, and would appreciate the thoughts from any other lang majors

@ucla9631 well there are only two courses listed as articulating, Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, but it does say complete as many as possible. I guess it will boil down to how much your essays showed passion for a subject you really haven’t delved into. You’re right, it isn’t impacted so it could go either way. Good luck!

cog sci applicant… only have 1/4 articulated prerequisites… as well as 25% percentile gpa…
:frowning: not looking too good for Friday

Anyone else feeling deflated about Berkeley? I would be very grateful to be accepted, but the more I read about how many people dislike their years there the more it makes me want to go somewhere else. I was accepted by UCSC and UCSB (waiting to hear from UCB and UCLA) and UCSB seems very tempting right now.

Am I alone in this?

Related to the English requirement, my case is confused.

I am student from 2 sister schools. And based on assist.org, one school is English 1A and 1B / 1C whereas the other school only listed English 1A and English 1B. Unluckily, I studied 1A and 1C at the second school. So I do not know if HAAS still accept 1C.

By the way, this semester I finally took English 1B but only updated the info in the middle of March. So I do not know if they still have my application then to reconsider for English requirement, or maybe threw it already earlier not to care about my update.

Just wait what will happen this Friday.

I agree. I have heard so much bad stuff about berkeley but i’ve never been so maybe i might like it. but i have an negative impression as of now. if they give me good finical aid i’ll probably be singing another tune lol.

@halpmehxd I just read goldencub’s reply, and if it is the case that the major prep courses are not required, you have nothing to worry about

@sugarcane1 yeah I’ll return to UCLA if I don’t get into Berkeley or Davis, I’d still like a UC degree to graduate with

The ucla transfer thread is way more lit than Berkeley’s

did anyone apply for arts and humanities?

Who applied to the college of engineering and as what major?

Thinking about how to not think about decisions…

Has anyone heard about people changing majors after transferring to Berkeley?

@2dwayne3904 Yes it’s possible to change if you’re doing a major in the college of letters and science since all incoming L&S students enter into their major undeclared. You need to generally finish whatever missing major lower div requirements you may have not gotten to take or retake a class to get a UC GPA and then declare. I applied as a Stats major last year, but I’m currently doing Data Science now because I find it more interesting (it’s sort of a new major too so it wasn’t possible to directly apply to it either).

@capacapa yeah actually!! I also got accepted by UCSB sand even tho at the start UCLA and UCB were my top two, but after getting in to UCSB and still waiting to hear back from UCLA and UCB, UCSB is becoming really tempting, way more than I expected to be!!! I’m watching virtual tours and going through different sections on their website LOL

@capacapa I’m in the same shoes

@capacapa I’m in exactly the same shoes. I just went to UCSB’s open house on Saturday, and it was so amazing! Everyone was so kind and helpful, plus the campus is extremely beautiful. I hear a lot more cons about Cal, and UCSB is looking much more appealing to me lately. Cal is good for its prestige, but the question now is if the prestige is worth possibly compromising mental health and safety.

@hych12 I applied as an art history major

@capacapa Same with me! UCB and UCI were initially my top choices (especially since my major is Bus Admin) but getting into UCSB has changed my entire view as to my plans for transferring… yikes
