UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Hi I had a question. For my major I need a 3.0 GPA and no grade letters under than a C. Does the 3.0 GPA mean my overall or for the semmester?

@willowstil Very true. I highly recommend getting involved in at least one club on campus to feel more connected. I was told not to get involved in anything (as a STEM major) and just get adjusted the first semester. It was the worst advice I received.

@“wanrong30@gmail.com” Hey congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats and the major you chose?

@Eugenium I believe that the 3.0 is an overall gpa, however it would be best to aim for a 3.0 this term as well.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I got ACCEPTED into Berkeley! With my GPA I’m shocked too.

Major: Technical Theatre
GPA: CC 3.48/Major 3.46
AA-T: Theatre Arts
IGETC: Done
Major: Done
EC: Same job I had before college consecutively with being full time student (over 3 years)
Essays: Very Personal (Single Mom, helping with bills, poor, gay, latino/chinese, 1st person in my family to go to Uni.)
Accepted: CSULB, CSULA, UC Riverside [Theatre, Film and Digital Production], UC Santa Barbara [Theater], UC Irvine [Drama], UC Berkeley [Arts & Humanities (Theater and Performance Studies)]
Wait-listed: CSUF, CSUN
Pending: UCLA [Theater (Design/Production)], UCSD [Theatre]

how is anyone making a calnet? do you need to SIR first? cause you need a calnet to make an email… thanks!

@Walrus72 what’s your major?

@Walrus72 Sorry to hear it, that’s frustrating :frowning: What’s your major? From what I’ve heard, you can call the UCB admissions office and sometimes they will say why an app was rejected, but I’m not sure what the deal is with waitlisted students. It might be worth a try.

I still can not believe it. I got in for physics with a 3.49 after the TAU, I even have one C in my major prep. I am sorry to hear that many strong applicants got rejected. My admission decision really showed me that they REALLY DO A HOLISTIC REVIEW. I have faced many difficulties in my life such as immigrating to USA with my family, parents divorce, and been going to school with 2 jobs. I had two internships in the industry and I did the honors program in my CC. I am very active in my CC and at church. I think all of that helped, it did not matter that I did not have the “perfect GPA” but everything else helped as well. They are not just focusing on grades they also consider what you do outside the classroom.

@bl00ming i made my CalNet after I SIRed ($250 fee was waived)

@eugenium yes, basically we need at least all B’s

@Walrus72 major? You need to call and ask. It could very well be that something was calculated wrong. A duplicate course, applying AP to a major req when it wasn’t accepted, etc.

I was freaking out last night because I thought I had a zero percent chance getting accepted to Cal so in my FASFA I didnt include this school and I didnt get ANY financial Aid reward when I checked. I edited my FASFA and included CAL hopefully theres still time to get a Financial Aid award because I dont have 31K hanging around. Hopefully other people have had this issue and its gotten resolved.

^^^ from everything I’ve read, that’s fine.

@jose1996 the Financial Aid Office works pretty hard with the accepted students, so work with them. Assuming you are instate, the tuition is $14K and many transfer students wind up commuting and/or finding a housing situation that is much cheaper than dorms.

@Eugenium i got the same thing, i believe its just for that final semester but dont quote me on it

I can’t believe I got in for EECS, isn’t that the hardest major there? I must be brilliant

@XOcrew75 - I’m pretty sure HAAS is the hardest major to get into at UC Berkeley. So that would drop you down to kinda brilliant.

Just a question, but is there some sort of guide for admissions and decisions depending on where you live?
Because literally EVERYONE i know who applied to berk (about 15 ppl) this year got accepted and i am just so surprised because some of their GPA is really low.
We live in california and all go to the same CCC so is it just a coincidence or is there actually some merit based on your location??

As far as I heard, it’s because UCB looks at your whole application(essays, ec’s) just more than GPA… maybe that explains why low GPA’s got accepted. That’s just what I think

For example, there were some students who got waitlisted/rejected at UCD while getting accepted to UCB. Davis doesn’t read essays while UCB read applicants essays. Hope this helps!
