Whenever someone posts up here that seems to be what they do or I think they email through the portal. Sometimes they reference a UC advisor they connected with. I’m not sure exactly.
Berkeley does not prioritize by date, ie if you turn in your application by the deadline you will be in the same queue as someone who applied at the last minute. A lottery determines your position in the queue. It’s hard to say whether you would get you first or second choice. If you choices are those places in high demand or short supply, your chances are less.
If you did not want to stay with freshmen, your choices would be Martinez (either the dorms or apartments), or any of the other apartments. I think Mills College is now available for women for next years’ attendees as well. Do note though that apartments don’t have that many number of spaces and the traditional dorms will always have the most number of spaces.
Then there’s always off campus housing which is not under the Cal Housing domain. Bowles Hall is yet another option.
Does anyone not have the Cal Grant in their financial aid?
@ RealNismo151 Yeah here! I’m not seeing cal grant on my FA either. I guess they haven’t finalized. Were you asked to submit California residency verification? I submitted mine last night and the status is still on pending. I guess that’s why cal grant isn’t showing up yet.
idk if this is a stupid question but for spring 2020 admits how would housing and finding roommates work? i feel like we are at a disadvantage bc everyone would already have their housing set by then
@salllykim I think housing isn’t too bad for spring admits (at least on-campus). Half the people in my apartment moved out after the fall semester (graduating, etc.) and some students drop out/leave/do study abroad. There are also students who break their housing contract to move off-campus for the spring. If you’re looking for off-campus, I’d start looking now. There’s also the co-ops and they usually have more room/shorter wait-lists for the spring.
Almost all the off campus housing have leases that expire on May 31, but there too, there are many apartments where students graduate early and in fact throw in sweeteners to get out of their lease early, such as offering to pay a portion of the lease. You’ll likely see more of this type of off campus housing available around October or even November. The much more difficult thing for off-campus housing is to find a roommate/roommates, which goes for regular June-August hunting as well. Unlike dorm housing where you can always default to random choices for a roommate, no such option exists for off-campus housing lol.
As for dorm housing, Cal Housing does offer Spring contracts, but they may be pretty limited. Students do move out all the time as mentioned above.
i want to swtich to spring transfer, but the faq says they rarely allow it…
Do any of you guys know how we get our calnet ID?
Finally getting around to posting on here Accepted!!
Major: Cognitive Science (L&S)
Transferring from CCC in the Bay Area
GPA: 3.85
Major Pre-Reqs: Completed
IGETC: Completed
ECs: Working full time while attending cc as a full time student, studying abroad with my cc
Essays: eh 7/10 i didn’t spend a lot of time on them but I think I picked strong topics to write about
Accepted: UCB, UCD, UCSC
Waiting: UCLA
Was so surprised and happy to find out I was accepted! Berkeley was the school I was sure I wasn’t getting into due to the fact I got a C in one of the major pre-reqs & my lack of ECs. However, they must have seen something in my application & I couldn’t be more excited. Congratulations to everyone accepted!!
REJECTED
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.95 w/ all major prep + IGETC completed
Extra Cirriculars: Founded a technology club on campus, did some Arduino projects, and wrote an article for a cybersecurity website
Felt really good about my essays, but I didn’t spend too much time with them.
So far I’ve been accepted to all UCSB, UCD, UCSC, UCR, CPP
I’ve been rejected from SLO and UCI (missing a major prep class)
Still waiting on UCLA and UCSD (Will likely choose SD over LA assuming I get in)
I felt like a strong candidate but life goes on ¯_(ツ)_/¯
ACCEPTED!!
Literally just checked the box because I thought why not and just apply. WAS NOT EXPECTING TO GET IN AT ALL AND ACTUALLY TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT GETTING AN ACCEPTANCE FROM THEM TODAY.
Major: Media Studies - For Fall of 2019
Tag: Nope. I tagged Davis
GPA. About a 3.3
Essay: I think mine was good maybe 7/10, but I honestly could be underestimating them. I spent months on them and had one UC application counselor take a look at them and then had a lot of friends edit them and give me advice on what to fix. One had gone through the UC Application process and was accepted to Davis and goes there. One had a major in Journalism from Ole Miss and one is a Political Science major at Georgetown.
I got an email at about 3:23. I had done all the classes that I needed to take in order to transfer to a UC. I didn’t do any research on what specific classes I needed to take for Berekely.
My plan was the last year was to go to Davis and then I got into Cal. Now I’m stuck on a decision. Does anybody have any input? I know Cal is amazing, but I feel like the atmosphere is so much better for me at Davis. I’m unsure about what to do. I don’t want to go to Cal and not succeed and be unhappy, but I also don’t want to go to Davis and think that I missed out on turning down Cal.
Hrey y’all! Congrats to everyone accepted! Does anyone know of cases of multiple Regents scholarships? I got it at UCSC which really makes me want to go there but Cal is my fream school. Do you guys think I can get it at Cal too?
@capacapa I don’t know, but sometimes the lower tier offers it as an enticement, assuming you might not pick them otherwise.
Anyone know when the Regent’s Scholarship comes out? My net cost is pretty much only 4k.
Usually a couple of weeks after notifications.
@Ohm888 Do you know if we are emailed to notify us if we are accepted as Regents? Or is it just a new pop-up in the portal? Thank you.
Also, is it known if Haas students are considered differently for Regents as L&S students? As far as eligibility - I haven’t seen a Haas transfer get Regents yet.
Does anyone know a good place to find roommates and what not for the upcoming fall semester?
Also just some housing question, I was wondering how hard it is to get into those apartment in the west village and whether they assign roommates themselves or do you have to find one yourself.
Also if anyone could tell me the on-campus housing options for transfer students where there is a higher chance to get a roommate who is also a transfer student?
Martinez is the biggest place that is the domain of transfer students for the most part, though you might see some traditional sophomores as well. Wada and New Sequoia possibly as well. Basically any of the apartments.
Any of the places under Cal Housing, there is always the option to get a random roommate(s).
@Makemeabear Congrats on Haas again! I’ve been lurking CC forums and LinkedIn profiles for a while and can confirm that I’ve seen some Haas transfers get Regents in the past.
