UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@ohm888 Hm I’m not sure, his exact words were

“I’m emailing you because you signed up for our reception, which is an invite-only reception. The invitations have not gone out yet, and you are on the list. Hence, I am taking your name off this list.”

Seems like an oversight/miscommunication; maybe they didn’t realize the rsvp was available on a public page. It’s a strange situation.

My sister RSVP’d and didn’t get that. However she said last year’s was not well-attended so it sounds like a glitch.

@ohm888 How odd… Maybe it’s cause she will eventually get an invitation so they didn’t feel it necessary to take her off the list, and this is just their way of telling me that I’m not invited lol ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@willowstil I found out what the prob is. She signed up through calcentral (hence invite). You signed up on the public page.

@ohm888 Which reception did she sign up for? In Cal Central I have an invite to sign up for all three of the socal ones, and an invite for transfer day, but no option for the reception that’s actually at Berkeley.

Hey I just got the call from them but I missed it. Can anyone that was able to pick up the call tell me what it’s about?

@Romeo233 I just got off the phone with them and it was basically someone from the Student Center asking if I had any questions regarding Berkeley. We spoke for 30 minutes and the guy was so nice and very helpful!

@willowstill and all others! Congratulations to all of you!!!

UC Berkeley ranked #4 this year in US News and World Report Best Universities in the World-it is a huge deal!

We are over the moon here about my teen’s acceptance!!! and my teen even shrieked out of now where today how excited they were that they got in!!! and I thought maybe somehow UCLA was releasing and that is why they were shrieking!

My teen showed me the most adorable video of a girl checking her portal and then screaming for her dad that she got in and it totally sums up our excitement.

I still woke up with tears of joy on both Saturday and Sunday. Receiving such outside validation from such a prestigious university is exhilarating and intense.

@willowstil well then rereading , what it is saying is you are already on the list and invites have not been sent yet, so they’re not adding you to a list you’re already on.

Who is going to transfer weekend? I’m thinking about signing up, but my manager already put the schedule out for the weekend and I’m not sure if I will be able to get it covered.

@spiritualgift That is AMAZING!!! :open_mouth: Congrats to your teen  I still check my status everyday because I’m so stoked that I got in

@fullogiggles The May 4th one? I registered! Hope you can make it. Anybody else also going?

@90smix Thanks, they are 18 and have been homeschooling so this is very exciting that they get to transfer. I told my teen about your post about updating your bio to “Brain like Berkeley” because they had just been playing me that song last week before they got in. And they thought that was an awesome! and wanted to add it to their bio as well, but they are still waiting on UCLA and UCSD decisions.

@90smix It’s a 3 day event called Bridges Transfer weekend? I’m not sure about all of the details, but I won’t be able to make it to the So Cal reception either because of work. At least I’ll get to visit my brother there at the end of May for his graduation, but it would be nice to go to a transfer oriented event

@fullogiggles my work said I couldn’t take the day off and I’m so close to putting in my two weeks…

Did anyone email to the admission officers? Seems like their mailbox is overwhelmed by questions so how long do you guys think that they are gonna reply?

This is a fantastic spreadsheet of average GPAs at UC Berkeley broken down by major and number of graduates per year: https://pages.github.berkeley.edu/OPA/our-berkeley/gpa-by-major.html

https://pages.github.berkeley.edu/OPA/our-berkeley/gpa-by-major.html

Especially for those wondering about the transition between CCC and UC Berkeley.

@luna0915 registration happens for transfer students sometime around July 15, maybe slightly before. UMAs at the school level aren’t assigned until end of May. Personally I think you’re better off dealing with your major’s advisers first. The general advice is that you should start off with only 13 units in your first semester (that’s 3 normal classes plus probably a DeCal (fun 1 Unit classes on just about anything imaginable).

If you’re a good planner you should map out (or do as good a job as possible) on what your next 2 years worth of courses will look like.

I’ll be at the UCB reception in the Hilton Pasadena on May 7th.

@spiritualgift Thank you for the link! I’ve been looking for something like this for ages.

But for real I knew the average gpa would be low but like… RIP

@ohm888 I guess that makes sense. Still strange to have it available on a public page if it’s invite only but oh well, not a big deal
