UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Thread

@supertrooper09 the middle range GPA for Political Economy transfers in 2019 was 3.71-3.93. Think positive. Good luck!

Here is my information and statistics :

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 4.00/4.00
College: DVC, Pleasant Hill
Years: 2018 Spring - 2020 Spring
Intended: UCB school of engineering.

I have already completed all the major requirement by the end of 2019 summer. I am now taking all the strongly recommended course like (Matlab, thermodynamics, solid mechanics, engineering drawingā€¦) for this entire year. I will pretty much finish all the lower division course before transferring. I never had any W or P/NP in all my transferable major-related course.

IGETC: Not applicable (engineering major)

School involvement: College welcome day volunteer, ICC representative of school club for 1 semester, Berkeley Project volunteer for 3 semester, some major-unrelated club experience.

Community service: Berkeley Project, Poll volunteer for contra costa county election center during 2018 election, food bank volunteer. (Total 50+ hours)

extracurricular/ special talented: Orienteering, several state-wide orienteering competition experiences, map reading and analysis, and skiing.

Job experience: an engineering internship in SF, doing mechanical design (major-related) since 2019 Oct.
Unrelated Job experience: DoorDash driver.

Honor/ Award: Two different scholarships for college students

Hoping to complete more extracurriculars based on my major, but itā€™s already too late to obtain an opportunity to do so.

Personal background: ESL students, first generation immigrants from Asia, asian american, low income status, a typical asian guy. I can speak two different languages fluently other than english. (trilingual)
Age: 20

personal statement: I chose ā€œcommunity serviceā€, " your greatest talent or skill" and ā€œovercome the most significant challengeā€. By the way, I am quite confident of my personal statement coz I put quite a lot of time to draft and construct all the elements for all the essays question. I also have found many professional english teacher to help revise my essay.

Applying to UCB, UCLA, UCD, and UCSD. Considering applying for out-of-state private school like MIT, Cornell (but too expensive tuition feeā€¦I gave up)

some of my friends said I have 90% chance, some said 80%, but some donā€™t agree, some said I have 50% chance to get admitted to UCB.

I donā€™t comment often in this board, but wanted to reach out as I was in the same position as you last year. I ended going to Berkeley for ME and, having been through the process, I think I can offer a bit of insight.

I went to a relatively well-known CC in the south bay, and had a few ME friends who went through this process with me. I believe all of them had perfect or near 4.0s, along with strong extra-cirriculars and essays. In the end, I believe I was the only one who got in at Berkeley, although the others did get into other very good UCs.

Iā€™d say your chances of getting into one of the top four UCs for ME (Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB) is pretty good, but your chances to get into Berkeley in particular is far more difficult to quantify, and honestly is probably not something that we can accurately estimate into a meaningful number. DVC was extremely well-represented in ME this past cycle (the website says there were nine DVC ME enrollees at Berkeley), but that number varies year to year.

In the end, it honestly doesnā€™t matter that much. It seems like you did a lot to prepare for transferring, and at this point itā€™s completely out of your hands. Enjoy the rest of this semester, and when April rolls around, Iā€™m 100% confident youā€™ll get into a good school. One thing that you should be thinking about is getting your recruiting materials in order to prepare for landing an ME internship for the following summer.

Hi all,

I have a crucial question regarding my TAU. I submitted my first TAU on January 27th, 2020. However, I had a change of heart in a classes, and switched out an English class that I do not need for IGETC for a Business Law class that is I donā€™t need either, but wanted to take instead. I submitted an updated TAU on February 11th, 2020. Did I make a mistake?

The English class I dropped was an honors course, so I did not complete the Honors program. However, I did not state myself as a student who completed Honors, so that part should be fine. I completed 13 units of honors. Does this make me look less competitive that I did not complete 15+ units of honors, or I still look competitive because I took honors courses in the first place?

Thank you everyone, Iā€™m grateful for any replies I get. Iā€™m really concerned and want to know if I messed up.

My application informationā€”
GPA: 3.80/4.00 after Fall 2019 grades
Major: Media Studies, completed all prerequisites after the Winter 2020 session
College: Two community colleges in Orange County
Years: Fall 2018 to Spring 2020 (including Winter 2019 & 2020, Summer 2019)

I have 3 Wā€™s, two of which were mistakes from not dropping the class in time for a refund and getting wrong information from a counselor for the second one, and one being legitimate, from a Multivariable Calculus course that I became disenchanted with.

Feel free to chance me, it would be much appreciated!

Itā€™s fine.

Any other TAP students get told to apply to the Alumni Scholarship??

Finally my turn to post on here after almost a year of looking at everyones stats!

Major: Political Economy
GPA: 3.60
Prerequisite GPA: 3.75
Extracurriculars: Co-president of San Diego Commerce Club, constantly worked part time, UNA member, taught Hebrew at my temple, PTK member

Hey yā€™all, I am just wondering. For the MAP@BERKELEY, I only got the form to fill out the GE/Breadth, but not the TAU, does anyone has the same issue?

Its through the UC application not Berkeley exclusive.

hey guys! thought i would share my stats

IGETC: completed fall 2019

good luck guys!!

@uclagorl Media Studies has course requirements.

Hi All,

I am a transfer applicant from an OOS school but I have been taking Community College Classes concurrently to transfer. I have met all my major requirements for my major (Interdisciplinary Studies) based on assist.org

I have enough credit to be considered a CA Community College Transfer but I am still dual-enrolled in my OOS school. Does anyone know how my app will be reviewed? Will I be looked at as an OOS applicant or CA Community College Applicant

Thanks!

@Ohm888 thereā€™s one class and it isnā€™t available anywhere lol

@uclagorl Actually, no as I majored in Media Studies. Iā€™m not referring to MS 10. Iā€™m referring the the four or so other requirements.

You need to look at the 2016-2017 assist req as the recent year isnā€™t updated.

@Pepsi1022 , can you clarify your question, please. Iā€™m curious if youā€™re talking about an alumni scholarship for UCB or another school, or what. I read of some people getting the invite to apply for the one that was UCLA specific, but not a general one, and not yet a USB one.

Thanks.

@ā€œjesseā€™sgirlā€ Sure! My UCB TAP counselor emailed me a list of schoolarships to apply for while waiting for results and included was ā€œSCHOLARSHIPS FOR
INCOMING UC BERKELEY STUDENTSā€ which included a few other scholarships and the Alumni scholarship.

Thank you, @Pepsi1022.

Hi, I wonder is it matter to take the second prep eng in the last semester?

Thought Iā€™d post my stats
GPA: 3.87
Major: Anthropology
Prereqs complete
Extracurriculars: TAP certified for UCLA, honors program, study abroad, retail/work (3 years)
I also have a law internship that I included on my application but it had just started when I applied so Iā€™m not sure if it will help my application.
I also included a couple extracurriculars from HS because I had a lot more than I have in college: TASSEL (taught people English), Skills USA
Extracurriculars are definitely my weakness, I wish I joined a club at my CC.
Good luck everyone!!
