Going to Cal would be awesome, but I know itās a long shot with my GPA. Iāve been accepted to a couple Cal States. Thereās always grad school!!
BTW: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major this website is super helpful for knowing how many people applied for the given major and how many were accepted. Also shows the average GPA of the applicants and those enrolled. Good luck everyone!
@Ohm888 hey, media studies major here as well. Iām a bit confused on the articulation agreement. I just checked Assist 2016-2017 and it says that the articulation agreement with the 4 courses you speak of will āno longer be valid, effective fall 2020.ā When you change the settings to 2019-2020 it shows the 1 Media class @uclagorl mentions but also states āeffective next fall, this articulation is no longer valid.ā
Does this mean the 2019-2020 agreement with the 1 Media class applies this fall 2020 and WILL NOT apply to fall 2021?
@uclagorl btw this class is a Media 1 class. I took it at Santa Monica College.
@drogodoe where does it say all 4 courses will no longer be effective? I know starting this fall the MS 10 equivalent needs to be taken at Berkeley, but where are you seeing the other three erased? On the media Studies home page it lists the other three groups, and while it says only two of those groups need to be completed I would seriously urge against that as the major is impacted. To be most competitive I would do all three.
Be aware the MS 10 course appears to have turned into an extremely hard weeder. It was pretty easy back when I went. Check it out on rate my prof, Josh Jackson.
Iāve also heard that if you do get accepted to Berkeley as a transfer, youād be admitted to the school but not the department YET? Like youād apply for the dept (Media Studies in this case) your first term, pass classes, then get into the dept?
I took AP Literature in high school and I got a 3. It let me skip English 1 (berkeley english r1a equivalent) and go directly into English 2 (r2a) at my school.
Hey everyone! The day is getting closer and closer, I canāt stop thinking about it! Good luck to all of you!
MAJOR: English
GPA: 3.9
Major GPA: 4.0
UC GPA: 4.0
Extracurriculars: an internship at the California State Capitol, and 2 Student Assistant positions, both for the state. I had some volunteer experience too.
Personal Statement: Iād say they were good. I got them edited by two professors, and a UCB TAP Counselor. I worked really hard on them, I kind of needed them to be good, especially since Iām applying as an english major!
Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
State (if domestic applicant): CA
School Type: Transfer from a community college!
Applying to UCB, UCLA, and UC Davis. UCB is the dream school. I really hope I get in!
@Warp776 When you say major prep complete, do you mean you finished all the courses on the list via assist? Or did you finish all major prep offered at your CC? Asking because Iām a fellow political science major here who is the latter of the two. Currently trying to complete the remaining prereqs at a 2nd CC.
I checked on assist, and it looks like Berkeleyās Major Prep for Political Science are.
-Introduction to American Politics (POL SCI 1)
-Introduction to Comparative Politics (2)
-Introduction to Political Theory (4)
-Introduction to International Relations (5)
-Introduction to Empirical Analysis and Quantitative Methods (3)
and one of several listed history courses.
Of these, the only one I did not complete is POL SCI 3 because there was no equivalent at my college. It says I will have to do it when I get there.
So to answer your question, I did all the major prep offered at my college, my college thankfully happens to offer most of the major prep courses.
Has anyone received any emails from Cal about covid-19? My cc hasnāt shut down yet but I heard that UCLA, UCR, and some other UCās have stated that transfer students whose campuses have shut down wonāt be penalized.
@smallkiwi I havenāt received any emails yet, but Iāll stay on the lookout. I havenāt applied to any of the schools you stated, so that is also probably why I havenāt seen anything yet.
Major: Political Science
Prerequisites: IGETC done this spring, all completed with total 3.8 college GPA
Extra Curriculars: On Student Senate appointed as the Student Advocate, president of Bernie 2020 club on campus, volunteer for various congressional, assembly, and presidential campaigns, one of five summer fellows selected to work in a CA Senatorās Capitol Office, worked with four grassroots nonprofits dedicated to serving and uplifting people of marginalized communities, founded an org serving trans people and their families, Youth Impact Award recipient. Interested in working in legislation post-education.
Work: Restaurant industry since age 16 (will be 20 next month) => host, server, barista.
CC: High ranking in the nation, Santa Barbara City College
@Ohm888 Apparently itās a common misconception that IGETC is accepted everywhere, even my counselor thought so. But I verified with UC Berkeley College of Engineering that they donāt accept it.
@jaescott i didnāt say it was accepted everywhere. I said if the OP is completing IGETC, the 3 overrules a 4.
UPDATE: I see where what I wrote could be misleading. The UCs all honor IGETC is the point I was making, but a few majors do not accept it, such as Haas. Since he was talking about a 3 working at the CCC I am assuming he is completing IGETC as that is the usual dilemma - 3 allowed for IGETC but not for breadth.
But youāre right, my wording could be misconstrued. ?
Rewrite: If you are completing IGETC for your major, a 3 is accepted for the English.
