UC Berkeley Haas 2016 Transfer Thread

Nope, I am an international student and I did not get one.

@ElevatedThinking Interesting. Would you be willing to post your stats?

What school are you at right now? Maybe its based on location?

Definitely not based on location - my friend at my CC got an interview but I did not

I just spoke with haas admissions and they said “don’t read into it” and that it can either be a good thing or bad thing if we did not get the interview. He said it’s for borderline applicants. @MikeSauce @briank82 @ElevatedThinking

Ah cool, thanks for sharing.

That’s the biggest thing, is just not reading into anything of this. It’s impossible to say what any of it means.

@HaasBounded I wonder if it is randomly selected or targeted at a small subset of applicants who are more likely to be admitted.

@itakenotes it’s definitely not randomly selected, it’s just those who are borderline and they want more information than what was on their application to see if they should be admitted or not.

Well if its for kids in the “maybe” pile then it is definitely a good thing for them because they get a chance to show the committee what they’ve got, at least they’re considering them!

^^ Exactly. There’s a kid who posted about a transcript request (non-Haas) who has a 3.1 GPA. The fact that they’re still even considering him given his GPA is definitely great for him.

Sigh…I wish I got one. I got a B in Calculus I.

I got a B in calc 1 … and a english 1. And micro econ. I have a ton of Bs. Like, probably 10. I still have a good GPA (at least a 3.80). You’re crazy if you’re worried about a single B.

@briank82 Well… the average of admitted applicants are 3.85. Most of the people I know who applied have 4.0. I feel like Haas might look down upon the B since it is from a community college and the courses are known to be easy. Besides, I dropped it once with a W and got a B. However, I am doing much better in Calculus II and expecting an A. Hopefully, they will take that into account when I email the SAR update.

Yeah. I mean, it’s obviously advantageous to have as high of a GPA as possible and thus, as few Bs as possible, but j think once you’re around the average GPA, it really turns to what makes you unique, your essays, your ECs, etc.

I’m obviously not in the inner circle of Haas admissions, but I can’t see them caring all that much of the difference between a 3.80 and 3.85 or a 3.85 and a 3.9. I think when you’re in that area, it’s the GPA that gets you into the conversation and then it really turns to everything else.

I got a B in calc 1 as well, like I said. Incidentally, I’ll likely get an A this semester. Are you doing a shorter quarter or something? I would think anything submitted much beyond now will have little chance of even being considered.

And don’t think I’m calling you crazy. I’m really just trying to say not to sweat one B, cause it’s not that big of a deal.

@briank82 I go to De Anza College. It has a quarter system.

Ahhh k. I take a class at Foothill and have a class ending there soon as well.

If anyone was wondering, there were about 70 interview requests… Considering 90 are accepted, I wonder how many interviewee’s will be admitted.

Whoa where did you get that information? My honest guess would be maybe 15 and those are better odds than the rest of us

@HaasBounded where did you get the info? A friend of mine got into Haas last year without an interview. His stats were perfect though. Those who received the request probably have better odds I think as @MikeSauce mentioned.

@MikeSauce @itakenotes my friend got an interview and the email that was sent to him had a google invite to this “interview event” and I believe 67 had confirmed they were attending. The email also said the reason for the interview was for those who had strengths on their application, but also some weaknesses, or those on the cusp of being admitted or denied. Finally, the interviews are being done by an alum who has never seen the interviewees application and is just told to ask provided questions.
