UC Berkeley Haas 2016 Transfer Thread

I got almost all of the same questions. I just don’t want to get my hopes up haha

@CCCtransfah are you an international student?

@ElevatedThinking and you got an interview as well right? Were these questions similar to the ones you were asked?

@HaasBounded I am not, which is why I find it odd they would want to test my English skills, That’s why I thought I was in the borderline group.

Yeah I am going to be the devils advocate here - I did call them and they said the only reason for interviews was for borderline applicants/applicants who had strengths in some areas but weaknesses in others. And, as having sat on various hiring committees, usually when interviewing they want to ask the same questions to every applicant to make it fair. I do not think that some interviews were for those who were 99% there @ElevatedThinking - as it seems that everyone who was interviewed were asked the same questions.

@HaasBounded I mean, you can interpret the information I bring here however you’d like. But if you think that the interviewer’s comments from a 20 minute interview with 3 or 4 vague, general questions can suddenly make the admission officer accept or reject you, you should reconsider that thought.

@CCCtransfah My questions were definitely more business-specific. So yes, two separate pools most likely do exist (my three friends, all interviewed, had a pretty wide range of questions asked).

@ElevatedThinking what were some questions you had?

@ElevatedThinking Yes, I do think an admissions officer can determine whether a borderline applicant will be accepted or not based on 4 general questions. Actually, general questions show more about the applicant then do specific ones, as you learn a lot from the applicant by how they choose to answer these questions. If the applicant is borderline, answering 4 general questions in the correct way could definitely push them into the acceptance pile.

@haasbounded I was thinking the same thing, its doubtful that they interviewed applicants that they were already 99% sure they were going to admit anyways, it makes little logistical sense.

My friend has a conspiracy theory where some of the interviewees are candidates for Regents, because her interviewer was on the Berkeley Regents committee haha

Of course it makes logistical sense. Haas is a business school, where speaking abilities are as paramount as academic competence. There have been issues with students who looked perfect on their applications, but did not meet the expectations of the school in reality (they either paid someone else/a company to do the entire application and personal statements for them, or they simply are not good at social skills). This is true for Haas, Berkeley in general, and many other prestigious schools. A brief, general interview allows the school to confirm that the individual actually matches what he/she has presented on paper. This provides the only personal aspect of an otherwise very impersonal application process. That is why the interview mandated the students to have ID proof on them, or otherwise, their sessions would be automatically cancelled. Even if the “99% accepted” figure is not exact, those that have been interviewed should feel optimistic about their prospects.

@HaasBounded I would agree with you, IF the admission officers themselves were the interviewers. But instead, a variety of alumnus volunteered to conduct the interviews. Unless the interviews were recorded and later shown to the application readers, I highly doubt that they are able to make a decisive “yes” or “no” based on a few shorthanded comments by a third party (my friend’s interviewer, in fact, wrote down nothing and instead just listened for the entirety of their session).

Anyway, I won’t be arguing about this any further. I’ve provided the information that I’ve gathered; you’re free to take it or leave it. Besides, the results will be released soon.

Yeah it’s not really worth discussing anymore as this is all just speculation. We’ll know in a few weeks.

We should all have a get-together when we get accelpted, and then party.

All right guys, pack it up, I can’t spell, I’m rejected.

Taken this from the UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread:

https://calcentral.berkeley.edu/ Apparently, there’s a “hack” (?) that if you can login to this (choose “Sign In” → “Sign In w/ Map@UCBerkeley ID”) without error messages, then you have been admitted. One person is claiming that from last year’s transfer thread, this hack was proven to be working.

Man, I love superstitious stuff like this. For the record, I got an error. LOL. Go check your luck out.
@CCCtransfah @HaasBounded @MikeSauce

Just kidding. I’m an idiot.

So I could log in, BUT I took a class at berkeley last summer which is why I have a username and password, I actually was denied access to a different site called bearfacts which is where Cal students can view unofficial transcripts, schedules, etc. I had it over the summer but they threw me out last fall lol

Anyways this new site you provided doesnt have any useful information, has my gpa from the summer but thats it, no financial aid info or anything indicating I got into Haas. Ill check it again in a week or two and update you guys!

@MikeSauce Sorry man, apparently this is not even a hack and I was getting tr-o-lled in the other thread. LOL. False alarm, team.

@ElevatedThinking Oh, we weren’t joking about that. It may work. I doubt it, but who knows.

A Berkeley representative told me that sometimes applicants can hear early, but only a few days or so at most. Something related to Regents or the Leadership Award, I think. I dunno.

Everyone’s best bet is to wait until the 29th - that’s when the portal hack will work, after all.
