@GoodAfternoonSir Googling “CLEP UC Berkeley” (or something more specific like “Does UC Berkeley accept CLEP” would give you exactly what you’re looking for. The answer, however, is no.
@nontraditional The Haas office is a great resource and full of wonderful people. That said, a lot of these questions are commonly found online either through UC Berkeley resources, Haas resources, or are just questions that have been asked dozens of times.
For the required UC transfer essay, “Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university”, what sort of out of class things did you guys do? I’m having a hard time finding internships because a lot require experience so could you guys tell me if you had any experience related to your major outside the classroom?
From the UC: “Things to consider: How did your interest in your major develop? Do you have any experience related to your major outside the classroom — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, or participation in student organizations and activities? If you haven’t had experience in the field, consider including experience in the classroom.”
^^ Focus on this rather than what kind of experience we had when we applied. Some had internships, many didn’t - either way it’s not as important as it seems.
Preparing for your major and readiness to succeed isn’t limited to direct or recent experience, it can be a multitude of things and can even have begun as early as childhood - who knows. Spend some more time and think about how you as a unique individual can answer it.
There is no way to secure admission, GPA or otherwise. Fall 2017 admitted a range of 3.62 - 4.00 with an average of 3.87. If you read through these threads you will find a wealth of information and examples of individuals who have been admitted with low GPA’s and even rejected with high GPA’s.
@FutureHaasBear All acceptances to Haas are “conditional”, a “B” is required for prerequisite classes and a “C” for non-prerequisites. Call a Haas advisor to ascertain which current classes are prereqs.
Do you think getting associate degrees will strengthen my application? A lot has changed these past months and I will earn 6 associate degrees along with having honors certification and igetc. I’m also thinking about taking extra classes at a university this summer along with the 12 units I’m taking at my community college.
Associates degrees don’t really mean much to them. You could maybe write about it in your essays and tie it to being a “student always,” but having those AAs won’t necessarily make you more competitive than someone who simply has the pre-reqs done.
