Off campus will definitely be cheaper, but only if you can find a roommate(s). You should definitely consider off-campus if you plan on going to summer school. One-bedrooms go anywhere from $2000-up but you have to include utilities and food, maybe transportation depending on how far you live.
Dorms will be more expensive but more convenient (sometimes) with food and location. Dorms are better for making friends as well for the most part.
@Fightingforhaas Definitely! If you peep last year’s thread, there was a transfer who was waitlisted and then ultimately accepted. Please connect with him @Ak1097
Ah I forgot about that. UCLA was the main one that did that to all admitted back when I applied. They want to protect their yield, ?. It’s a nice touch, though. Was it a student?
@okurrrrr123 I didn’t get any call! Was that your admissions officer maybe?
Also, I am quite worried about one thing that I plan to call Haas about and talk to my school. Grades for the spring quarter for my school (De Anza College) will most likely not be out to send by July 1st even though it’s part of Berkeley’s conditions of requirements. Our finals are the last week of June. It says in FAQ that Haas provides 10 days after the deadline to send official transcripts in those situations. I can maybe get it in by then but it’s really cutting it close. Anyone in a similar situation?
@123Ana it shouldn’t be a problem either way. Transcripts should be in by around June 21 IIRC at the latest, and I’m pretty sure you can then electronically send the transcript to Berkeley. Even if it is late or about to be late for some reason, you can contact Berkeley admissions and explain, prior to July 1.
@123Ana I am from De Anza College as well, and I am planning to ask a counselor. My situation is slightly different where I am taking summer classes as well. They will provide a form on MapBerkeley for filling out if you are taking summer classes and have to submit final transcript late. However, not so sure about the delay on the Spring side
A heads up - there’s an Envision Haas session this Friday and if you haven’t already, you should be hearing about the Haas transfer welcome and more about PreCore!
I definitely recommend attending the welcome if you can! It was a huge opportunity to have all of your questions answered about PreCore, registration, financial aid, etc. and even better, to meet other newly admitted students and current students!
Is there any chance to sit in one of the courses at Haas? I am not sure if this is a common thing or even allowed lol. I just was interested in possibly seeing class discourse before deciding which school to go to. I am planning on going to the May 4th event regardless though.
How impactful is the PreCore? Are the courses difficult? I’m not sure whether or not I want to register. I understand the PreCore is recommended, but I’m thinking of taking a break from schoolwork over the summer, so I’m a bit conflicted.
