Hi @kt_ay, thank you so much for all the information
Accepted
GPA: 3.89
Interview
Pre-reqs completed: all completed by fall 2018 except for Calc 2 which will be completed this spring. I did a walk-in admissions appointment and the adviser made it very clear to me that I could only have one pre-req pending during spring.
ECās: I completed two internships in the last 2 years. One was paid, the other was not. These internships took approximately 20+ hrs/week as I was given projects that required a lot of time and effort. There were plenty of leadership opportunities in both, in which I took full advantage of. As a CC student, I highly recommend seeking internships. It kept me going, as it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that you are earning a business degree. It continued to fuel my passion for business and kept me on course.
Volunteer: I spent approximately 10 hrs/week volunteering. I fulfilled my duty as a volunteer but also started a fundraiser for the non profit that brought in funds for needed building improvements. I think itās important to not just volunteer for the sake of volunteeringā¦ REALLY invest yourself and make an impact. Even if you donāt start with the right intentions, pour yourself into it, and believe me it will change you for the better.
Work: I have previous work experience in sales, approximately 5 years. I was able to highlight my awards in the work place and my roles as a leader in these organizations. I also run a small business from home, but I did not highlight this nearly as much.
I spent HOURS on my supplemental applicationā¦ I canāt stress that enough.
Another note: I wasnāt always the best student. At 18 I went to college and did VERY poorly. I dropped out, went to work, and 5 years later I started college fresh. It was a lot of work, as I had to start in beginning algebra because my math skills were so poor. I worked hard, and here I am finishing calculus 2 this springs. I went back with a sense of purposeā¦ I knew I loved business and now found enjoyment in the learning process.
I was discouraged by most people from even applying, and rightfully so. Judging by my past I had no business in considering Haas. I encourage future prospects that may have a similar background as me to not let that define you. The approach at Haas is clearly holisticā¦ without this process I donāt think I would have been accepted.
Best of luck, and congrats to those who have been accepted!
@transferszn same here! I was accepted and yet this semester Iām taking calc 2, an econ class, and intro to business.
Iāll post my stats tomorrow. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!! What a day!
I was admitted yesterday! Congrats to everyone, irrespective of the outcome, for committing to this whole process. Youāve all crafted a high degree of merit that cannot be solely defined by a single letter.
Will be sharing an in-depth post for future transfers to benefit from.
Accepted!! Extremely humbled and immensely grateful. Congratulations to all!
(Please take the following advice as advice only; this is not a guide. This is simply what I have to offer.)
GPA: Do not be intimidated and do not compare yourself to others constantly (esp. on this thread). As you can gauge, there are many people with 4.0 GPAs that have been rejected. There are also students with 3.7 GPAs who have been accepted. The most important metric for Haas, academically-speaking, is your performance on the Pre-Reqs.
Do your best to schedule and complete all the Haas Pre-Reqs in time, and earn the highest grades possible. I completed all my pre reqs before Spring.
Haas Admissions is holistic (and forgiving) and likes to offer a second chance to students who show their persistence. I received a non-passing grade for my first attempt at Calculus II - what I thought would be my greatest weakness. I retook the class and got an A.
For Breadth Requirements, try to get at least 4-5 done.
ECs: Commit to things that excite you; not all ECs have to be business-related. Itās really impressive to take up high status positions and big name organizations, but I donāt think thatās what Haas truly cares about. When I attended Envision Haas, there were some transfer students who said they were bartenders, restaurant servers, and even yoga instructors. Whatās more important is having an impact on whatever it is you may be involved in; that will reflect really well on your character, your essays, and your application.
Work: It would be great to have some work experience. After all, you are applying to a business program. Pick up some work experiences or internships and show your leadership capacity (very important).
Interview: I was invited for an interview. There are no confirmations and this is purely speculatively, but I see interviews as evaluative components of your application. My interviewer mentioned that he was extremely impressed with my interview skills. I had a positive feeling about my Haas admission outcome based on my interview performance.
Haas wants to see if you resonate with what you shared in your application, have great conversational skills, and have HUMILITY (very important).
Essays: Work very hard on these. A lot of overqualified students apply to Haas yearly - too many students have extremely high GPAs. I started brainstorming my essays in June and began writing in August. I worked up until the November deadline. For the Haas Supplemental, I began working as soon as the prompt was released on 5 PM that day. Haas wants people who convey a unique, diverse story. What do you have to offer to Haas and how will you enrich their culture? How do you align with the four principles (very important; make sure your essays reflect these principles)?
To Fellow Haas Applicants: I truly mean it when I say that everyone should be proud for having come this far. Youāve all done the pre reqs, crafted your essays, and worked extremely hard. You are intelligent, hard working, and driven. The proof is in your character. You deserve all the respect that youāve earned, and that fact needs no additional validation.
Concluding Thoughts: Haas has been at the forefront of my mind since I began my community college journey. I really wanted this outcome more than anything, and I am very fortunate to be in this standing. I look forward to attending Haas this Fall. I will also be attending Pre Core. Please message me for more specific advice or if you have any inquiries. Iām always happy to help

Also, congrats to you all who got into haas !!!
Is anyone waitlisted here?
Hey does anyone know the difference between the PreCore program and the ātransfer edgeā Iām kinda confused and donāt see lots of information on it. Also, what are the dates for the precore? I gotta start planning if I wanna do it.
I was thinking the same thing! We have such similar stories! It will be very cool to meet you at Haas:)

Anyone doesnāt have to pay the $250 deposit? I accepted the offer, but was not asked to pay, so wondering if anyone is in the same situation?

ACCEPTED with Interview
HAAS (Business Administration)
CC transferring from: Berkeley City College
GPA: 4.0 (micro econ + calc 2 spring semester)
Age: 21
Units completed: 61 units after Spring semester
Essay: 9/10 (3+ months of constant work)
Resume: 10/10 (Tedx talk, best-selling online course, marketing manager, top-charting mobile apps)
Comments:
Haas was the only school I applied to. Honestly, I had a strong intuition they would accept meā¦ Also, I didnāt want to go anywhere else haha. I specifically talked about Haas in my required essay so they knew Berkeley was the only UC I applied to (I think this helps).
But where I shine the most is in my Resume ā I have a lot of entrepreneurship experience. Tbh, I donāt think they care about grades much. Sure they careā¦ but everyone has a 4.0 GPA these days. Stand out in your ResumĆ© / essays.
My interview didnāt go that great tbhā¦ It seemed super rushed and she didnāt ask for any clarification at all. Didnāt feel like a conversationā¦ Scared me a bit.
Things that may of helped as well:
- I wrote about āBerkeleyā twice in my essays. I grew up in Berkeley so banked on this.
- 3/5 of my essays were business related.
- All of my essays I talked about helping others, my insight, and always involved another person
- I had two essays on ādiversityā
- I spent a ā ā ā ā ton of time on my essays. I knew I had a great resume but I didnāt let that get to my head. SPEND TIME ON THOSE ESSAYS.
- Also, forget trying to always add the Haas principles into your essays. Everyone is always like, āmake sure to incorporate the principlesā. ā ā ā ā that. Write from your heart and display your passions ā everything else will fall in place.
Good luck to future applicants!!! Iām super excited
@anhvo105 same here, they didnāt ask me to deposit anything. I was wondering about that too. Is that a problem?
@haasornothing If you already have a best selling online course and are a marketing manager, idk what undergrad Haas can really teach you lol. Looking forward to meeting you!
Anybody else freaking out about Housing? I do not know where to live lol
edit: delete (omg sorry i thought this was the regular thread) iām not sure how to delete a post
Yeah @Scaar25 I havenāt done enough research and am kind of confused what to do about housing as well haha
Whatās better?: Living in dorms or off campus?
