UC Berkeley roommates

Hi,

I’m having many difficulties with my roommate and floormate here at Berkeley.

I’m a quite person who loves reading, loves school, and having somewhat of a social life. I currently have a 4.0 Berkeley GPA.

I live on an on campus apartment (meaning we have a kitchen and living area). This semester I have a new roommate, and he is a spring admit (party-guy). During this weekend he invited over twenty guests and had several parties. He got drunk and came to bed at 3am with a girl on our couch. However my previous roommate was the studious kind, and he would constantly study his organic chemistry and anatomy classes. He would not bring friends and if he brought someone over for 5 minutes he would tell me before hand. However, this new roommate brought 5-6 of his friends over today after the party yesterday. And they would constantly talk! I could not even take a nap due to the noise. I could not get rested from the previous night disruption at 3am.

The previous night, another Berkeley student living in proximity (in a different room) came and complained that he would go to the RAs and complain. If noise reduction levels were not reduced!

What’s worse is that all year long I had several issues with my floormate, who would come out of his room and start talking outloud to his friends on the phone. And play games (I would hear gun shots of battle field one). He took his girlfriend and himself to our shared shower. That was awkward and he uses my water bottles, paper plates, paper cups, toilet paper, coffee maker. My floormate also brings his friends over past 12am and once he brought 10+ people over. He has the exact personality of my new roommate.

I’m screwed this semester, please tell me what I can do and how I can immediatly leave this place. My floormate is freshman and I’m a junior. I cannot stand this! They are all for fun and care little about academics.

Note: sorry about grammar and spelling I wrote this all on my iPhone.

You could let your RA know what’s going on so if you guys get an actual noise complaint it’ll be in the record already that you’re unhappy with his attitude.

Also you could request a new roommate. People transfer out between fall & spring semester so I’m sure there’s empty beds.
