@ericbadmon I think there’s a possibility that it might be true, especially considering it has been speculated that UCB and UCLA collaborate with each other in which one school would accept the student and the other school would reject the student to protect the yield rates. One of my friends ultimately decided not to apply to UCLA so he could boost his chances for HAAS - I personally think it’s crazy that some people do this though.
@choukevin yeah if they actually collaborated I wouldn’t mind as much. I think for most people, they’d be happy getting into either/or, getting into both is a plus. But it would suck if they didn’t actually collaborate, and just assumed that the student would get into UCB (or vice versa) and chose not to accept the student solely for that reason, and then the student doesn’t get accepted into UCB either. Cuz then you just got screwed over for something that’s pretty unfair, when you actually should’ve been accepted. But if they collaborated and knew for a fact you got into UCB in that hypothetical scenario, then it’s not that big of a deal.
At the same time tho, they really don’t know if students wanna move outta their area or not. I’ve known so many people in southern California who want to move to norcal to try something new. Also, it’s a time consuming process for them to check and see if students got into the other colleges or not. Even something as easy as checking a database, they still have to wait on the other school to make a decision, which doesn’t seem too practical. But hey, these schools do care about their pretty numbers so who knows.
I really hope they don’t assume that students want to stay in their area! I applied to both UCLA and Berkeley but I much prefer Berkeley- of the four schools I applied to, Berkeley is my top choice and UCLA is my third choice. I live in Southern California so hoping that doesn’t work against me. I’m missing a major prerequisite at UCLA that I’m not missing at Berkeley though so if they do somehow collaborate I guess that’s not too bad for me but idk. I’m guessing there are enough students who are from one area but want to go elsewhere to prevent them from doing that but who knows.
If so, then it works in my favor for Berkeley bc I’m NorCal, not that I thought I’d get into UCLA anyway, way too below their GPA range for my major which is impacted there. Sort of hoping this is true, low key, sorry!
@ericbadmon well the thing is I live in Humboldt county so there are really no other CCs around. However, I learned yesterday that I guess I can only use one of my AP history tests, which means I won’t have enough units to transfer after semester. I was pretty bummed, but I’m okay with it now because I’ll have to the chance to save money and improve my GPA.
Hey guys did any of you possibly use different majors in the personal statements? Specifically for the mandatory question where it asks how you have prepped for you major. I applied to psychology for every school but Berkeley, so I thought it’d be best for me to talk about psychology for that prompt. Because of the word limit, I couldn’t even address the major I applied to for Berkeley. Did any of you go thru this? Does anyone know how schools approach these situations?
@scholaballa What do you mean you can only use one of your AP history exams? There’s a cap on them? What? This is coming from someone who is using AP credit to pull over the 60 credit milestone.
@ericbadmon What did you apply as to Berkeley?
2017 Transfer here finishing up my first year at Cal as a ChemE - just wanted to say GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. I know this is an incredibly stressful time in your lives but keep a few things in mind:
-If you don’t get in. It’s not the end of the world. You either got into some great other schools you applied to or you can try again the next cycle (I was rejected for Fall 2016, admitted Fall 2017).
-If you do get in. CONGRATS. You belong here. Try not to spend your summer worrying about getting rescinded like I did. My SIR got “erased” and everything got fixed eventually. Connect with the FB groups and other people in your major ASAP. Once you’re here, soak it all in. Go to office hours because you have 2-2.5 years to soak up learning from professors that are world-renowned in their field. Your peers are the best of the best, learn from them as well. Don’t let the bureaucracy get you down. HAVE FUN!

submitted another TAU with my updated winter grades and spring coursework to Berkeley…would these courses/grades be considered in my admissions decision? I know only up to fall grades count towards gpa, but will they look at your winter grades?
I wonder if anyone have got a proof of residency or transcripts email from Berkeley. I was asked to fill the residency proof form from SD, but haven’t heard any from UCB and UCLA. Does it mean ucb and ucla are not considering me as an acceptance? or it just depends on schools
@chlorine2 I don’t think so, I think it depends on school, because I didn’t get that either.
@wwoooohoo Probably not, but they might, they’re just not guaranteed to look at it if submitted after January 31st. If you’re waitlisted or appeal the decision then they’ll look at it most likely.
Does anyone remember if the igetc form that we had to fill out in the supplemental application required us to list the classes that we took to fulfill each part? I’m totally freaking out because I can only remember it asking if igetc will be complete by the end of spring 2018 and I said yes… SOS
It didn’t ask what classes it was just a yes or no question.
Do you guys think I have a chance at admissions with a 3.56 GPA for legal studies? I have a 4.0 in major prep though (if that even matters lol).
@thecolorblue Yes! they look at an application holistically. So GPA isn’t the only thing they look at.
Hello everyone! I’m a Fall 2017 Berkeley transfer and wanted to wish all of you good luck! I remember being in your shoes this time last year and it was so nervewracking and stressful! But don’t worry, whether you end up at Berkeley, end up somewhere else, or stay at your CC you guys are all amazing! Let me know if there are any questions you have and I’ll try to help you out!
