@caitlynn09 thanks for joining this thread. Is grade deflation real? I’m getting a bit worried about it as a pre-med student (although I have a social science major). And what was your major
@chlorine2 I don’t think you need to worry about it. Each school does forms a little differently. I think UCSD was the only school that required that form. I think the others will require it after admission. I and many others never got one for LA and/or Cal
@wwoooohoo it for sure won’t get calculated into the GPA used for admission consideration, but depending on how close you did it to the deadline, they might look at it. Especially if it’s a prereq/important class.
@ericbadmon My best friend goes to Berkeley, pre med, grade deflation is real , there is bell curve especially in STEM courses, and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, etc. Grade Deflation is real, for pre med the avg GPA for upper division according to my best friend is around a 3.7, so if you get in and work hard, you should be fine.

Has anyone gotten an acceptance or rejection yet? I know it says that decisions are available “on or before April 27” so I figured I would ask and see if anyone got their results!
Decisions are released on April 27, usually around 2-3 p.m.
@ericbadmon I’m a political science major so the grades are basically what you earn. But depending on the classes it can be a bit different - especially for STEM professors like to grade on curves and make A’s into B’s or C’s. But for classes like History, Sociology, English, etc. they give you the grade you get, unless you have a strict GSI.
A lot of graduate schools understand how rigorous UC Berkeley is and they will factor that into their admissions process. A 3.6 at Cal may possibly be weighted higher than a 3.9 at UC Riverside or Merced (not saying they are bad schools, but not as tough to get good grades).
@laurelmm your stats are really great! I believe psych is an impacted major but your GPA and extracurriculars look good
While we’re all playing the waiting game can y’all chance me?

@Snoozekitten your GPA is amazing so you’re in I think. Good luck!!!
“Decisions will be available on or before April 27, 2018.” That’s on their admissions portal. I’m pretty sure it can be before April 27.
I saw that too, I swear that that was not there before! I’m so excited and terrified rn, although it says mine’s still under review, sigh
I just tweeted admissions about it, like HOW early if could POSSIBLY come out hehe, idk if they’ll answer, hopefully fingers crossed
UPDATE: They told me they have no idea what I’m talking about, that the decision day is the 27th… but… my portal… says… differently…
IS THIS A LATE APRIL FOOLS PRANK?!!!
Not cool Berkeley… -_-, if not… then stop playing hard to get with me!
Guys, the never release it early. It’s been on the 27th for years. In the afternoon.
Yeah, no early decisions.
Are you all auto-accepting to Berkeley if you get in? I’m kind of having doubts.
I’m applying for Regants through UCD and if I get it I’m honestly considering taking it because it’s a full ride to UCD vs having to work part time at UCB - though financial aid should cover a good portion of my expenses (if I get in). Or, I could also get in to UCLA and not have to worry about moving expenses at all (I live in Los Angeles) and keep the very flexible, school friendly job I have now.
If I get in to UCB I’m a little worried about not being able to participate in research opportunities/clubs/internships because I’ll be too busy trying to keep up academically and working, while at UCD I’d likely be at the top of the class and have more time to able to get more out of the “college experience”.
I know I’m jumping the gun a bit since none of these decisions have come out yet, but I can’t help but wonder.
Anyone in a similar situation? Is prestige or potential for involvement or convienance more important to you?
@Snoozekitten if I was in your position I’d go with UCD. It’s better to be able to do more vs not very much. Leave prestige, UC Davis is awesome too, you’ve already articulated why. Plus regents is great too.
Edit to add: I live in the East Bay with Berkeley students and housing is horrible. It’s so expensive and competitive, and on-campus housing is no better. I thought I wanted to go to Berkeley but it’s such a pain living here!
@Snoozekitten I mean in terms of Davis, I live in the Bay Area like @OhWhatsHerName , so most of my friends went to schools nearby including Berkeley and Davis, have a few that go UCLA too, but the point is, I would go where you can get out with the least amount of loans, if you get a full ride to UCD go, Davis is an amazing university with lots of opportunities, lacking a bit in the social life… okay a lot, but in terms of getting out of undergrad with not debt, that’d be an awesome. Berkeley is an amazing university, has a social life, the prestige, the housing is what @OhWhatsHerName said, its bad, best friend just finalized housing for next semester and she’s paying (while sharing her apartment with 3 other girls and splitting costs) over 1200 a month, yet its cheaper than on campus for her. For UCLA if you’re close to home, its cheaper for you go there.
Point is, turning down Berkeley or UCLA if you get in is not a bad decision, its whats best for you. Honestly undergrad if you’re going to grad school doesn’t matter all that much, go where you’ll get out with the least amount of debt, if UCD is a full ride I’d recommend you go for it. Prestige doesn’t mean crap in 20 years when you’re still paying off student loans, don’t forget grad school costs.
Good luck!
