My son’s (11th grade) SAT test scores are 1510(770Math+740 Reading), SAT Math2 740(taken after 10th grade), SAT Bio 760. He may be retaking SAT Math 2 again in August. His weighted GPA should be 4.23(UC Capped GPA 4.05) and will have 10 AP courses completed by his senior year. He will be doing biotech internship during summer. He played varsity soccer 3 years and plays in a high level competitive soccer team year round. He may be choosing Biology or Bio engineering major when applying colleges.
Please advice, Thank you.
His SAT scores are great. His GPA will be competitive but he is looking at popular and competitive majors for the UC’s and they tend to be more GPA focused vs. test focus. Of course for the top UC’s like UCLA/UCB, you need the whole package.
My advice with the UC’s is to apply widely, identify 2 safety schools which he will be happy to attend and write some amazing essays. Also consider some the top Cal states such as Cal Poly SLO, SDSU, CSULB and some private schools since merit aid is definitely possible with his test scores.
