*uc davis appeal 2022*

Hey there,
Like 93% percent of people who accepted UC Davis’ waitlist, I got rejected this past Friday.

Now, I am considering appealing to UC Davis just as one last resort before I finally give up on this school and fully focus on the one I already SIR’d to.

Is anyone else considering appealing? Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks!

What would be the basis for your appeal? Since UCD required a waitlist statement, anything of significance should have been addressed in that waitlist statement. You would need new and compelling information beyond what was presented on your UC application and your waitlist statement. I would think that not being admitted off the waitlist is closure enough.

Best of luck in whatever you decide but I think at this point you should move on.

@Gumbymom See the thing is, in my waitlist essay, I talked about what I’d contribute to the school and why I’d be a good fit, not any personal challenges (because like why waste the words talking about that)

Then you did not address any personal challenges in your original application? That is where it would have made the most impact since you are trying to give the schools an “insight” what type of person you are beyond the academics. I am not trying to discourage you and you need to do what you think is best for your situation so if your appeal will have merit then you should proceed.

I agree with @Gumbymom. They made a decision and you want to force them to reconsider YOU because YOU want it. You’re not basing it on what they may need (ex: maybe they needed tuba players for the band, maybe they need a volleyball player or an portrait artist; you NEVER know).
I don’t think you understand that all of the schools were inundated with applications and appeals.
They considered what you could add to the university but nothing changed with the waitlist. So if you go ahead with the appeal, I think you will be sorely disappointed.

@Gumbymom @aunt bea are you both responding to @ouigarcon? Sorry I couldn’t tell if you were advising their situation since I hadn’t talked about myself much.

I’m not going to front, I didn’t really talk much about “new compelling information” or accomplishments in my waitlist essay due to space. Much more has happened since I turned in my waitlist essay so I would talk about those things as well as personal challenges. I’m confident that I can provide those things.

But I am definitely doubting appealing, it feels like a waste of time, but I know that I would regret it if I didn’t at least try. I mean, that’s the least anyone can do at this point, right?

@classofbroke2022: Sorry, I was responding to @ouigracon, but my advice is the same. If you feel it would be worthwhile to appeal then go ahead but do not expect much.

I know I will apply for the appeal for sure! I really have my heart set on UC Davis and I already denied all of my other schools. If I don’t get in I will go to CC and TAG into Davis but I am putting everything I got into this appeal. Although the appeal acceptance rate is really low I will try to defy the odds to get in. I believe in us!

@icantbeliveit Finally someone with a little optimism! I appreciate the opposing views on this site, and I recognize that the chances are slim, but I believe in us too. Best of luck to you!

Just FYI. I called the admissions office this morning and was told that about 5,000 freshman students got amitted. There were 3,000 on the wait list and none got in. Here is what the bottom line is. You are competing with students from across the United States and across the globe for that matter. UC Davis actually admits alot of students from outside the United States, right or wrong. Those kids on average pay alot more money in tuition and considering the 80,000 or so applications the school recieves I’m sure they can easily find kids with better stories for their “Holistic Approach”. Not making a judgement here but if you are from California that is what you are up against.

I just submitted my appeal to UC Davis. I got 4 letters of recommendation from some really close councilors and teachers. I had my appeal letter reviewed by 3 people and they all agreed that it was “new and compelling information.” I hope that with this appeal I will be granted interviews and possibly a spot for admission to UC Davis. If anyone else is planning to submit an appeal to UC Davis I know we will all do amazing things. Whether or not we get into UC Davis from the appeal or not, I know we will all end up in the place we are meant to go. Good Luck To All Of Us Appeal’ers

@icantbeliveit Same, I just submitted my appeal about an hour ago. UC Davis does not grant interviews for people who appeal, but I’m sure what you submitted will give them enough insight to see how great of a prospective student you are and more! I sense that we both poured our hearts into our appeals, so whatever happens, we can’t really blame ourselves. As long as we know we tried our best, we’ll be okay. Good luck to you and to everyone else who submitted an appeal!

Boyfriend was accepted through appeal (not too sure when but he checked last night) into alternate major math and computational science. He originally applied as CSE. Good luck to everyone who appealed!

My appeal was just granted to UCD today. Sadly I will not be attending though as I learned that my community college has special ties to UCLA and Columbia which I will hopefully be able to attend in two years. Good luck everyone whose appeals are still being reviewed and I hope you get accepted!

didn’t get accepted haha oh well (i appealed after getting rejected from the waitlist btw)

@ouigarcon same

@icantbeliveit When did your appeal decision come? Still waiting on mine
