**uc davis class of 2025 discussion**

@sbdad12 I just went through a pile of mails. Son’s scholarship just got updated to full non-resident tuition for 4 years for ASU, plus $3000 for research and Barrett travel program. We will seriously look into it. Thanks so much!

Sounds like your son got the same scholarship as my daughter. It’s a great deal…we are paying $20-$21K per year because she’s in the business school.

There are a lot of achievers in Barrett. Top 10 in producing Fulbright Scholars and lots of NMFs and NHRPs recipients.

I just dropped my daughter at the airport to fly to Phoenix with her friend who is studying at UCSB. Talking to her friend, she’s having a good experience too, but I feel my daughter is also getting a solid education and has a lot of advantages her friend doesn’t.

Even though she got into both schools, I feel she made the right choice. I think the situation could be a blessing in disguise for your son.

UC Davis vs UC SC for CS major - which one to choose? Any particular things to look into for making the decision? Thanks!

@mamashka I would look at internship and job placement. Living in NorCal, I think UCSC is closer to job opportunities since it’s closer to Silicon Valley.

Anyone have any insights on UC Davis vs. UC SC for Psychology Pre-med? I’ve been accepted to both and they both seem like cool schools. (:

Davis has a top 10 med school and they like to accept their own undergrads for it. I believe they matriculated no OOS candidates with a sub 2% acceptance rate to Davis med. Davis is also ranked 26 in the nation for psych on US News. UCSC is ranked 90 for psych. While I know the numbers don’t tell the whole story and college is more than just rankings and studying, to say these things don’t matter would be asinine. In terms of job proximity, Sacramento (20 min drive from Davis) is a large regional city with many medical internship opportunities whereas Santa Cruz is more of an isolated feel. In the end don’t listen to me, or anyone for that matter. Do your own research and go where your heart calls you, and you will end up where you should be

I was rejected as a neuroscience major. I applied as a freshman, but already have an Associate’s degree (before diploma). I already submitted my TAG awhile back. Should I try and follow up on that, as Davis is still the school of my dreams.

I meet all the TAG requirements for a neuroscience degree^

Does anyone know how different UCI and UCD are in terms of pre-med… I’ve heard very similar things about both but I’m not sure which one to choose

Thank you so much for the very in depth response, I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know about some of the differences between the two. Rankings definitely do show something- hearts are also important… I’ll be thinking hard! (:

As a Freshman applicant you cannot TAG to a UC regardless of your AA degree. If you submitted TAG, UCD would have notified early in the process if it was accepted. You can send an email but would have to file an appeal and according yo the appeal stats, only 1 was approved last year.

Would you still be considered a freshman applicant? I’m in dual enrollment courses too but not enough for an AA

If you take college courses while in HS as dual enrollment, then you are considered a Freshman applicant regardless if you have an AA degree or not so TAG does not apply TAG= Transfer Admission Guarantee

If you graduated from High school and took College courses, then you would be considered a Transfer and TAG would have been an option.

Well both are overall top 40 undergrad schools but it depends on your major. Davis and Irvine are both roughly equivalent to each other in med school rankings. Your major matters because the school’s rankings vary by major. If you’re in the college of biological sciences, Davis is a t20 school whereas Irvine is t35. In terms of city, I prefer Irvine but Davis is very close to the state capital of Sacramento (20 min drive) so that’s something to consider too

Thank you for clearing that up!

Thanks for responding! I was accepted as a psych major

where can we find the numbers of acceptances and rejections from Davis this year? are they out yet?

Unless they stated the # of applicants admitted on the decision letter/portal, the UC’s usually do not post the information till after the May 1 SIR date. The only data I have is the # of applicants.

Psych at Davis is ranked 26 and Irvine is ranked 36 by US News. However, more than rankings, considering geographical location, where you’d want to live after graduation, and cost of living are all important. Irvine is a beautiful city close to LA but it’s terribly expensive to live in the area. Contrast Davis which is near Sacramento (20 min drive), located in a more rural community but has much lower housing prices and etcetera

yeah, I was not sure about that. makes sense though.
