I’ve been thinking about getting a job on campus throughout this summer. But now I’ve realized that Davis does not offer work study to freshmans… Is that true?

If so, I wouldn’t mind getting a job in the dining commons but I realize that it will actually affect my financial aid for next year. Also I am wondering if you even recommend a freshman to get a job their first year since transitioning from high school to college takes a while.

I would really just like to make money and be able to provide for myself rather than relying on my parents. But idk what to do now ! :(

I’m not too sure how work study affects your aid package but getting a non-work study job definitely does lower the amount of financial aid you get next year. These would be great questions to ask at the financial aid office at Dutton Hall because they may be able to go in greater detail and give you specific numbers. (M-F, 10AM TO 5PM).

In my opinion, I would not recommend freshmen getting a job (especially at the dining commons, as many people I know had the idea that it would be an easy job but came out regretting it). At least not their first quarter because there are many freshmen with jobs after their first quarter. I recommend using your first quarter to gauge how much of a load you can take and identify how you can improve. The earlier you learn how your habits work, how much time you need to study to reach your desired grades, and etc, the better.
