I'm not sure why my TAG for Davis was denied. I went through all the papers necessary with my counselor and filled out the online info completely.
The response I got was:

Your UC Davis TAG was not approved for the following reason(s):

The information required to process your TAG was either missing or incomplete.

Did anyone get the same response and know why thet got that?

Will I still have a chance if I apply normally with a 3.63 gpa under pre-landscape architecture?
My EC's only include a part-time job...

“I got rejected by Davis for TAG with 3.98 GPA. I was expecting it, because I had many units taken in a 4-yr institution in a foreign country, and my ccc units alone would be even slightly over 100 semester units by spring, so my combined units is definitely over 80. They did not say specifically why I was rejected, but I assume that’s the major reason. I really hope I still have a chance during the regular application period. No matter what, it is not so encouraging to be rejected…”

Here is a rejection message:

TAG Term:
Fall 2011 TAG Major:
Aerospace Sci & Engr

Thank you for submitting a UC Davis TAG. Based upon your TAG community college counselor’s assessment, it has been determined that you have not met the UC Davis TAG criteria. We adhere to specific guidelines for TAG approval due to the nature of the guarantee. You may still be eligible for admission to UC Davis; many students remain competitive for admission without the guarantee of a UC Davis TAG. We encourage you to visit your community college counselor to review your circumstances and to pursue Fall 2011 admission by filing the UC application for admission and scholarships this November or at a later time for a future term.

All TAG decisions are final and appeals will not be considered. You are encouraged to view our TAG FAQ for frequently asked questions about UC Davis TAG.

I got rejected too, I got the same message that Gattaca got but I have not taken any courses at any 4 year institutions. I went through the process with a counselor and they said I was eligible for the tag too. I am not sure why I got rejected.

My cc counselor did warn me for having many units from 4-yr-college before, but she never mentioned that I did not meet other criteria for TAG. I wish the rejection message could tell me more about the situation I’m in. But anyway, let us keep our heads up and do what we can for now. I wish you guys get in thru regular application.

I got rejected, but I knew it was coming as I got a message from my counselor after submitting it that I was ineligible since I am not currently enrolled at a CC. I was hoping that since I already have 60 units completed, 3.871 GPA, IGETC and all my major pre-reqs completed (all from CC’s no 4 years) that it wouldn’t matter if I was enrolled since there is no risk I will not complete the requirements. Oh well, I’m very confident I will get in through the general application anyways.

I am an engineering major, and it requires tons of prereq courses.
In order to join the TAG program, I have spent an extra year in cc so that I can get the IGETC done. My counselor told me that I have met all the UCD TAG criteria but now you are telling me I got rejected??? are u kidding me?

I’m an engineering major as well. But I think you are in a better situation, unlike me, at least your past is less complicated, you don’t have 4-yr-college history so I think you will easily get thru the regular application and get admitted if you keep your performance up. Good luck.

i got rejected with 3.83 gpa. i was missing 3 engineering courses, so i kinda saw it coming. their major pre-requisite is impossible to finish in 2years unless you took ap in high school. i didnt. oh, my major is aerospace engineering.
or maybe it cuz i only took 2 ge classes.

I applied for aerospace engineering as well for Davis. So was I rejected for TAG with 3.98 gpa. So obviously TAG does not take your gpa level as a big factor. I have not finished many engineering classes either. But I will be finishing all math/physics/chem/and all. Engineering related course that I took are just: Introduction to Engineering/engineering graphic design/engineering problem solving(C++programming). That is all. I cannot move on to other engineering courses so fast because many of them require the completion of other classes.

Berkeley is actually the school that requires the least classes for transfer. Davis requires so many classes in engineering, while for Berkeley you only need to complete math.physics, and some chem, you are good to go. I love that. Because I’m not happy with most of the engineering courses I took in cc. I feel that I learnt little to none, I’m not satisfied with the quality of the classes offered. I think we would benefit so much more if we can take these engineering classes in UCs.

i didnt take engineering courses because my school, OCC, doesnt offer any engineering courses that match those of UCLA or UCB. i will be finishing all math, two physics, two genral chem, two english, and two computer science(c++), but no engineering by this semester. i think Davis wanted me to finish all of those engineering courses by spring to be eligible for TAG. thats impossible to me. cant do 3 engineering in next semester. and i dont want to waste time on the classes that i might have to retake if i go to other school than Davis.

^ I’ve just checked Davis’s engineering requirements again, it seems that as a transfer we need to finish a lot of prereqs, if not admission will not be considered. But if your college does not offer them, you might be just fine.

I got approved for UCD and UCSD tags, but from these two choices, I’m with UCSD. My main choice is Cal, then UCLA though.
But back to the UCD thing: I also took courses in a foreign country. In fact, I AM from a foreign country. I finished 2,5 years back home at a 4 year accredited university. None of the classes were transferrable, so I had to take everything again from scratch at a CC here. Which was fun
but when I submitted the TAG to UCD and UCSD, UCD sent me MULTIPLE emails with this and that, including the last one “to fax or mail them a copy of my Ukrainian transcript”. I did.

They approved me.
UCSD sent me nothing, but still approved.
So maybe, you received a similar request from them and didn’t respond? Or it went to spam, or you just forgot? They can’t reject you just based on the number of units. They HAVE to view your transcript and evaluate the courses first!

I say - call them until they give you a reasonable explanation!!! Persistence always takes you where you want. Here’s a little story to prove it:

I had a professor accuse me of plagiarism based on the fact that in a quote I put “I” instead of “he”. She said that I tried to falsify the story by saying that “I” experienced the event, not the author. Even though it was clearly a typo since it was in an intended quote format and referenced the prof. was a mean **.
I had to go all the way up to the dean (who scheduled a hearing a freaking YEAR later after I bugged their office almost every week), and found me “guilty”. Well, I wasn’t feeling like “guilty”, so I took it up to Academic Affairs, then Vice President of college. Appealed.
I made the prof. along with the chair (also a , was together with the prof.) look pretty stupid during the second hearing, totally dismissed their accusations in front of the Vice President.
