UC IRVINE Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

@hoshizora did you apply data science to UC Irvine?

@davidls Iā€™m Electrical Engineering

Anyone have an idea when people who didnā€™t tag could start hearing back? It seems like the only UC left that could come out before late April.

Last year it was about April 18th that non-tag students began to hear back.

@jaescott someone correct me if Iā€™m wrong but Iā€™m pretty sure last yearā€™s thread they heard back around April 20th?

do you think tag/honor students should hear back tomorrow??

Iā€™m hoping tag students start hearing back today!!!

Last year Tag & Honors students heard back April 2. Regular applicants heard back April 18. UCI is the second last UC to send decisions for regular applicants that late. UCLA is the UC that sends decisions for regular applicants on the last week of April.
I was accepted to UCI and it was around 2pm when they started releasing the decision. It was 2:16pm when I checked my portal and found out.

I think it was April 25 when UCLA released their decisions

Did you check the TAP portal or Applicant Portal? Not sure if we ever have to log into TAP for any updates so just making sure I know which one to check

I checked the applicant portal. Acceptances rolled from April 18 (Thursday) to April 21 (Sunday). Sunday morning some acceptances were being sent. But rejections started rolling in the middle of the day and it stayed like that for the following days.

Also for updating your classes I know they have a deadline but at least last year youā€™re able to update after the deadline. I was able to do it and many other students. I also emailed UC Center and updated them with any grades that were relevant. From winter semester to 5 week courses in the spring.

I accepted admissions to UCI since it was my dream school. If you guys have questions. Please ask. UCI is really a beautiful campus. It it has plenty of resources to make sure the students succeed regardless their major. UCI is definitely not a party school. And you can see that and feel that off the bat. Yeah thereā€™s parties and it can be different for many. If you know people that party you will also party. the energy in Irvine overall is different. Uc Irvine has the ability to really make you to chill. And thatā€™s due to the City. All around Irvine is a city that fits more perfect to raise a family. i personally enjoy my time and donā€™t look for parties. I had enough of that in my teenage years.

@C105213 Did you do on-campus or off-campus housing?

I did on campus. I was staying in vista Del campo Norte. I had my own room but was sharing the bathroom. The rooms are a little bigger in vista Del campo but the walls there are stupid thin. The walls in vista Del campo Norte are also thin but not thin as vdc. Also the rooms are a little bigger in vdc. I will be staying in vdc for the 20-21 year. I donā€™t care for the walls. I want more space lol also you can request your roommates if you have friends that are applying to the same housing and same floor plan. Make sure you guys also u similar descriptions. Thereā€™s more housing like Camino Del Sol. The rooms and the housing are prettier. But is more expensive. Iā€™ll put it like this. You get what you pay for. And that goes for all the housing. Also the newest on campus is Plaza Verde. Is by far the most beautiful on campus site but I personally donā€™t like the way the floor plans are set up. All on campus have parking. Puerta de Sol is by far closest to campus but the parking is Walking distance. In fact, all Puerta Del sol residents have to park in the ARC parking lot.

The off campus housing is actually closer to campus but usually everyone live like sardines. Is like 2 ppl per room and you are paying easily 600 to 800. And if you have a car you are not guaranteed parking in the place youā€™re staying at. Usually off campus housing owned by the Irvine company have apartments of 2 bedrooms to 3 bedrooms for 2k easily.
Also the Irvine company is shady. All the current students living there are stuck with their contract and canā€™t break it off. So as of now you have students living there against their will because Irvine company is refusing to cancel contracts without penalty fees. Anyone that does will have their credit score damage. For on campus housing UCI allowed students to break their leases without any penalty fees. That is awesome.
I personally donā€™t like off campus housing because I just canā€™t share space with someone else. I rather have my own room by myself.

Also UCI is the only UC with her own shuttles. And you donā€™t pay because is already included in the tuition.

@uctransfer2020 I also want to add that transfer students have 2 year guaranteed on campus housing in the apartments owner by ACC (basically the housing communities that he listed above)

Oh and utilities are included for all on campus housing except for plaza verde. Utilities are not included for off campus.

Honestly is all personal preferences.

@hoshizora Thanks for letting me know, thatā€™s pretty cool.
@C105213 Do you get to have any preference for which apartment group (VDC, plaza verde, etc.) and floor plan you get offered or is it pretty random?

Yes I forgot to mention that. You can place them in personal preference. 1 through 4 with 1 being your top choice. And the same goes for floor plans

Okay cool. Do they only give you one housing offer after you submit the housing application or do they give you a couple to pick from? Thanks for answering my questions
