UC Santa Cruz Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

rejected. BME major

Thank you for your interest in attending UC Santa Cruz. Your application for admission for the fall quarter 2015 has been reviewed, and unfortunately, you do not currently meet our campus selection criteria as a junior transfer. We received over 8,800 transfer applications for a projected enrollment of 1,200 students, and there are many fine students whom we were unable to accommodate.

3.5 GPA

Accepted: CP SLO, LB STATE, SJ
Denied: UCSB, UCSC, SDSU
Pending: BERK, DAVIS.
Major: Business Admin

@dwabner I hope your gpa drop this semester didn’t affect your TAG for Davis because you went below 3.3, gpa requirement for CS.

Awww man. Sorry to hear @SHOENICE, what is your current top choice out of the states? Did you apply to Cal as an Econ or Business major?

Now I’m anxious to see my UCSC decision… maybe they’re getting to the BME majors now.

@ortemis You were rejected? I’m extremely surprised; I thought you’d get in for sure because I still remember that you got accepted through TAG there. What happened?

@jonuni94‌
Top school is Cal Poly SLO (BizAdmin)
Second would be Berkeley (Econ).

Didn’t really want to go to SC anyways so I’m not worried since I have SLO already as an option.
Hope you get in man.

I’m hoping for the best @SHOENICE,

Would you really chose Cal Poly SLO over Berkeley? I wanted to apply to Cal but I was missing two of the Calc courses needed for Econ so I didn’t bother. Did you finish those Calc courses?

@SHOENICE Ohh where you are you from as well if you don’t mind me asking?

@jonuni94‌
I would consider berkeley just because of the prestige but I don’t feel that I would do good there because econ is a tought subject and my gpa would drop. I would probably still end up at SLO though because I would be studying bizadmin- Finance which is what I actually want to do and learn. Plus Cal Poly is a hard school to get into and it’s prestigous to employers as well.

You can’t go wrong with Slo or Berk in my opinion.

@Ortemis I have a serious question. Did you apply for Computer SCIENCE for SJSU? I was rejected on the fact that the SJSU Comp Sci minimum GPA is now 3.45! I was GPA 3.42 and my application was withdrawn due to too low of a GPA.

So many people got denied today :frowning: its making me anxious.

Did anyones status update just go back to the main message?

My status update went back to the main message.

Main message here too.

Oh man. i’ll pray this hopefully means acceptance for us.

Accepted back in 3/14

Major: Philosophy
GPA: 3.44
IGETC: Yes, in the spring
Pre Reqs: all done
TAG: No
Applied: UCSC, UCD, UCB, UCLA, UCR, UCB
Accepted: UCSC,UCR
Rejected: None yet

@eshkidd‌ I actually applied to SJSU as Software Engineering. I looked at SJSU GPA threshold for transfers before applying. Did some research and saw that they automatically reject you if you’re GPA is below the threshold. I saw that my GPA is below the gpa requirement for fall 2014 transfers, so i applied as software engineering… Sorry that you were rejected. CS at SJSU has gotten very competitive over the years.

@ARandomPerson1‌ I think my TAG got voided because i failed a Physics class in the fall semester which i’m retaking right now. My GPA didn’t drop because i received A in all other classes. They didn’t mention about passing all Spring classes in the TAG agreement message, so i thought i was okay but i guess not. Oh well. And since my tag is void, that failed class really hurt me. Dumb for not dropping it. It’s okay, though. Good luck to you in whichever university you pick.

Has anyone received an actual financial aid estimate? MIne just shows how much it will cost but no actual aid is calculated into the cost just yet.

^^Same

@thigher, none for me either. I haven’t seen any transfers who have their aid estimate yet, probably because we have more time to decide than the freshmen do at this point.

@ortemis thanks for the reply. I was baffled that I was outright withdrawn because of a 3.42 GPA, even though all my math and programming were A’s. I can’t believe it has gotten to the point for SJSU that CS is only 3.5+ when you have to take Calculus, Programming, and Physics courses. Cal Poly SLO thread had reports of 3.9 and 3.8 GPA Computer Sci getting rejected.

That’s pretty crazy. There’s so many reports about “…America needs 10 million technology/software engineers in the next decade and there’s only 1.5 million graduates to fill them.” yet it seems that in the very near future CS will be a major you have to have 4.0 to get in anywhere.
