Hi guys. Thought id finally join the conversation. Not knowing is driving me crazy
Hi Guys!
I have no decision yet either…
What does it mean when they don’t send out decisions until later? My friend said it usually is a bad sign…
GPA: Applied with 3.23, dropped to 3.11
Intended Major: Biological Sciences
Major Pre-reqs: Completed
TAG?: No
IGETC: Just 1 more left
EC’s: work as a reading and writing tutor, and I have been volunteering at a hospital for 5 years now. I belong to Phi Theta. I’m a Girl Scout. I teach younger kids how to do certain art crafts, to coach group games, and tell moral stories. I also lead the prayer songs and chants in the end. I have a pretty strong Personal statement, which my peers and professors have commented as my strong voice being present.
Applied: UCSC, UCD, UCSB, UCI

Pending: UCSC, UCD, UCI
What do you think are my chances to get into UCSC guys?
Any Philosophy majors going to UCSC ?
Admitted just checked
History major 3.08
Accepted: SFSU, UCSC
Rejected: UCSB,SDSU
Pending: UCI, CSUN, UCR, Chico State
Rejected. I had a horrible semester (1.0) at a University my freshman year of college, and have increased my grades dramatically (4.0) since. I had extreme medical and traumatic circumstances that explain my poor performance. Does anyone know how effective this appeal process is, if at all? UCSC is my first choice and really only choice, I’m one of those kind of people. If I have to wait I will, but would much rather start in Fall '15.
@somesing sorry to hear. May I ask what your major was? I would definitely try an appeal, maybe go into even more detail than your personal essays?
@somesing honestly I’m in the same boat as you in regards to my first semester and how my transcripts look but I haven’t received my admissions decision yet. I’ll let you know if mine is consistent with yours.
If you don’t win your appeal, look into academic renewal at your first school. Should knock you well above a cumulative 3.5 for next years app
Re appeal, they only want compelling new information. If you detailed your medical and personal circumstances, it’s unlikely an appeal would work. If you didn’t, then go for it.
Did you let them know that you had a low GPA because of health issues that affected your education? I would appeal!
@lindyk8 I know they say that but are they really /that/ strict on what constitutes an appeal? I feel like the “compelling new information” is somewhat of a tactic to minimize the appeals they receive.
That could be @basAlbus . I have heard of instances when someone just wrote their appeal on how much they loved the campus and got admitted. I assume it might also have to do with numbers. If more admitted students choose another campus and that major has an extra spot or two, they might be more lenient. So, yeah, it could work.
For those that have finished IGETC- does that mean once you transfer to UCSC, that you should graduate in two years?
And that you’ll just be working on upper division classes mostly because all GEs have been completed on IGETC.
It depends on major requirements.
True @lindyk8 but lets say the transfer student has fulfilled all of their major requirements needed for transfer via Assist.org
It boils down to the fact that you need 180 qtr units to graduate. So you need to look at the req for your major that you still have to do (incl any pre-reqs to those classes). In a nutshell that is it. It’s usually very doable unless you are STEM and far behind in your major pre-reqs. That’s why the more you cover at a CCC the faster you can get through a STEM major.
@lindyk8 Sounds good. I am a business major. The reason I ask is because some privates it might take me 3 years to graduate because of the different requirements whereas at a UC it will take me 2 years because I’ve followed IGETC and have finished nearly all major pre-reqs.
