I did not get an e-mail, I was tipped off to check the portal by an invitation to the facebook group for 2019 transfers. When I checked the portal there were 3 unread messages under application messages.
@willowstil I’d like UCSD. I bet you’re excited about the UCB/UCLA decisions coming up. Your acceptances will be here soon.
@kristinpete Nice! SD is one of my top choices too. I’m a little bit excited, mostly terrified What’s your major?
@willowstil They have to be looking at more than just gpa. I think the schools do like that I’ve completed more than enough units.
Human Biology major
Congrats @DanS1986 . When you got the invite to the FB group was that on FB itself or via an email?
REJECTED
Current School Cal State Fullerton
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.67
EC’s: Plenty
@emcg333 aw, sorry to hear it. Any idea why? Like did you not have all the major prep done?
Hey Yall! I got an email saying I am being offered the Regents Scholarship at UCSC which sounds like really great news! Does anybody know more about it? They make it sound very prestigious and I’ve heard about it, but I thought it meant to have all costs paid off? Maybe this is a different Regents because they’re offering a fixated amount of additional aid.
@capacapa Congrats! It is very prestigious. Here’s some info on it: http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2016/04/the-uc-regents-scholarship/
@capacapa Congrats! It is very prestigious but it’s not a full-ride. The amount they offer depends on the UC.
@capacapa congrats! It is the most prestigious scholarship UC’s offer. Can I ask your stats and major?
@Not2cool4school @cloud7 Thanks so much! I am now just realizing how really great that is, I tend to try to not get too excited when things sound that nice lol. Now I have more aspects to think about when deciding what school to go to (as if it wasn’t hard enough… I was thrilled when the CSU’s accepted me lol)
@tinedancer Thank you! As for stats not sure exactly what people list here, but maybe to give you an idea.
GPA: 4.0 UC (it is like a global 3.9 bc of a B in a non-transferable course and a C in a remedial math lol)
Literature Major
Latino Male.
Lots of EC’s! Two internships, club involvement (head of committee in one), two jobs, two awards from two research conferences at my school, planning committee for a big conference there too… (I’m gonna stop myself there because it feels like I’m bragging but let’s say I was very busy for long periods of time lol!)
Are you also transferring soon or this fall?
@capacapa Those are awesome stats! It’s not bragging when someone asks
I am transferring this fall, currently deciding between Davis(Accepted by TAG) and SC, hoping for Regents at Davis so that will make my decision for me if I get it.
@capacapa those are amazing stats! You earned that scholarship! @tinedancer I’m hoping for Regents at Davis, too! Otherwise, I may go to UCSB. I still haven’t heard from UCSC.
@tinedancer both are awesome choices! Congrats! I didn’t apply to UC Davis because it is too close to home, but recently I’ve been learning more and more how great it is. Hope you get the regents too!
@yiskers I hate to admit that lazy is a great way to describe it. Maybe I was just putting the pressure more so on myself, but I felt a lot of emphasis that the essays were crucial to getting in. If they aren’t, they should be more transparent so I’m not loosing my mind before apps are due while juggling all the other responsibilities in life.
You’re right, they have a huge potential to let great candidates slip through their hands because they don’t take the time to read about their hardships, passions, and adversity. It kind of freaks me out because if the more “prestigious” schools like UCLA and UCB take the essays seriously, a student in the middle could not quite be considered good enough for either. I essentially stated this in the Davis thread, but for me personally, I have a comfortable GPA and I will have the IGETC, however, I have little suggested classes complete for my intended majors. My essay’s are dimensional and highlight my passions about why I would be a good fit beyond transferable classes for the major. Unfortunately, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do until this summer. All my applications are for different majors in the design/human interaction realm but because of this there wasn’t a straight pathway for me to take. Each major suggested different courses, and I was too late to take some because of my timeline. I’m just not doing something as direct such as Poly Sci or Psych where the CCC and UC system create a mapped out pathway to succeed at any school.
Rant Over… Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk Guys…
Also, congrats on everyone who got accepted today!! @capacapa huge congrats to you for regents! Wooooo!!!
…the waiting continues lol
Anyone heard back?
