**UC Santa Cruz Waitlist Class of 2025**

She committed to SDSU and still hoping to get off waitlist at Cal Poly…but UCSC has a different major that she wants to inquire about, so things are up in the air right now.

Got it! Exciting time! Good luck to her (and you!) :star_struck:

Exciting is one way to describe it😂

My son was undeclared. See above.

With that GPA I’m surprised he wasn’t accepted to start with. My son got into UC Riverside (CHASS undeclared) and it looks increasingly likely he’ll be going there. He’s also waitlisted for Davis.

We were surprised also. (His twin brother with similar stats except a 4.0 unweighted was accepted.) He got a 35 on the ACT which could not be used. Weird year.

I know!! :joy: :joy: :joy:

I’m not sure that GPA is the be-all-end-all of whether you get off the waitlist. so I wouldn’t overly focus on that. There are many other factors that may determine waitlist clearing including major, geo location, diversity, class rank. For example if Alaska is under-represented they may opt in for a lower GPA from Alaska. I do think that once you are waitlisted you should consider yourself good enough to be admitted and there just wasn’t enough room initially to admit as many as were qualified. So as odd as it sounds I tell my son congrats for being waitlisted at a couple UCs when he’s coming out of a very competitive high school.

Irrespective, let’s hope for a couple more short-cycled waitlist students clearing. Good luck to everyone.

Yesterday they let in a few kids from my son’s HS that I have heard about so far. They were all kids who I was surprised they waitlisted in the first place. It is a very competitive CA public high school where a high percentage of kids who applied to UCSC in the past got in, although few attended. In 2020, 59 applied, 46 got in, 4 enrolled. Although people say the UCs do not yield protect, I now suspect UCSC does, in some form at least.

It’s literally impossible to switch into CS. Even if you’re a CE major with a CS minor, they won’t allow you to switch into CS. However, many CE majors here take a “specialization” of CS classes to the point where they are pretty much CS majors. There’s a wide variety of CS classes CE majors can take, and you can make it so you take as many CS classes as possible. This is also a great option.

Does anybody know when the next wave of waitlist admissions might be released?

People who were accepted off the waitlist - did you see any financial in the portal? Roughly when do those come out after they accept off the waitlist?

Is it impossible to switch from “Proposed Computer Science: Computer Game Design” to “Computer Science”? I got admitted as my second choice major “Proposed Computer Science: Computer Game Design” when my first choice major was “Computer Science”.

I assume it’s going to be the 17th. Ik, long time away!! The first wave of admits has until the 14th to respond, and that is a Friday. So, I assume it’ll go out around the 17th. BUT, this is just a guess, I have no other evidence than just when the first batch has to respond by. I wish you the best of luck!!!

It is impossible. If you weren’t admitted as a proposed Computer Science major, you won’t be able to switch to it. Even if you’re a computer engineering major or CS:GD major, they still won’t allow it. I believe it’s even impossible for CS B.A. majors to switch to the CS B.S. major.

Computer engineering major for colleges to live which one is best ? Can you give me some advice? Thank you very much!

This quote is from the advising.ucsc.edu page for CS:

“ The Computer Science major at UCSC is impacted, and in order to pursue this major students must have been admitted to UCSC as a proposed Computer Science Major . Students not admitted as Computer Science will not be able to pursue this major.”

It depends on what you want. If you’re seeking to live with other engineers, then Crown would be your best option. If you want to live really close to Baskin Engineering, then Colleges 9 and 10 would be best. Cowell and Stevenson are the two dorms closest to the center of campus and they have views that overlook the ocean. They are also a 2 minute walk from the main gym if you’re into that.
