I am struggling to keep up in cc courses as I missed the first weed taking finals at my current uc school. I was planning on completing igetc to transfer but is it necessary???
double post because the phone lags and u cant delete posts
If you’re at a UC, don’t follow IGETC. Complete the GE path for UCI graduation (that’s where you are, right?) Complete and get Letter of Reciprocity - ideally. You can miss some, if desperate, but to be competitive complete.
shoot i misspoke, i meant the letter of reciprocity instead of IGETC… so pretty much i am wondering if i have to get the letter from my current school or if it improves my chances. My major prereq courses are pretty much going to be completed and i have good grades
Yes, get the letter from current UC. Someone up here got admitted to Berkeley saying they had it, then dropped one course and got rescinded. My advice: don’t chance it. Talk to your UCI advisor.
interesting, i just realized the course i am worried about not taking is a major req. so then i would just have to complete most of them right, missing a few would be ok?
You need to complete the major req for sure. I would try to get as many GEs done as possible. How that plays out, I can’t say. If it’s a selective major, you never know how they calculate candidates.
I have a question, for the major req, do we need to complete our current school or the UC that we want to transfer to.
^^ major req based on the UC you’re applying to, but complete GE based on current UC. Use assist.org and plug in any CCC to determine the major req.
Thanks for your response, I have another question to ask you and hope to get your help:) When I use assist. org, it gives me a list of major req courses for the UC’s that I am applying to, but how canI know the courses that I take in my current UC are comparable to the UC’s that I will apply since their courses’ names are totally different.
What UC are you at, which UC do you want, and what major?
Contact the major adviser (student affairs officer) at the UC that you wish to transfer to and review with them the list of classes available at your current UC. If possible, make a visit to this UC that you wish to attend and schedule this as a face-to-face meeting during the summer when things are less hectic. This way you are establishing a relationship early with the major adviser and can possibly get insights on what would make your application stand out.
Also, if your current UC does not offer the major prereqs you need, then ask your current UC to see if you can take equivalent online classes concurrently at a junior college. Some UCs do allow concurrent enrollment (i.e. you take 12 units at your current UC and then 4-8 units at junior college online) to knock out these major or GE requirements. Point is that it is VERY IMPORTANT to finish major prereqs and as many (if not all) GE requirements by end of 2nd year when you are transferring.
