UC to UC transfer Foreign Language?

Hi I'm currently a second year at a UC and I'm trying to get UC Reciprocity in order to transfer; however, there's no chance that I'll be able to complete four quarters of foreign language prior to the end of spring quarter. Is it absolutely necessary to have foreign language to get UC Reciprocity or to transfer in general? Also, if I don't have UC Reciprocity, will all my classes that I've taken so far not count at a different UC?

Thanks!

You asked two great questions that I do not know the exact answers too but I am also dealing with this foreign language dilemma in complete my current UC’s GE’s in order to get the UC UC Reciprocity. At UCI, they only make you take the equivalent of 3 years of high school language…meaning if you did in fact do 3 years of a language in high school, you can go to your adviser and she/he will exempt you from it. I only took 2 years of a language and so I have to take the equivalent of 1 more high school year in college, which UCI says is only 1 quarter (aka Spanish 1C). I am going to do this through UCLA Extension online and do Pass/No Pass grading. I am not sure what UC you currently go to but talk to someone and see what the deal is…4 quarters seems like a lot.

UC Reciprocity is not required to transfer. It can’t be used against you for admission. However, if you don’t finish the whole set of GE’s at your current school, there’s no guarantee that those classes will satisfy any GE’s at the new campus. Some might satisfy GE requirements at the new UC, some won’t. They (the new campus) get to pick and chose, and they won’t let you know until you’ve gotten in, SIRed, and are right in the middle of orientation. This may or may not set you back for graduation. Some of the UCs (UCI) have a ridiculously long list of GE requirements. I suggest you take a look at the GE catalogue at the UC you are planning to transfer to. See which requirements might match up with the classes you’ve taken. Plan to fill in possible gaps with some summer school perhaps.

@HeatZz Make sure that UCI accepts the UCLA Extension course as Spanish 1C.

Thank you so much for answering! I’m almost done with my GEs here because I’m undeclared. I go to UCR and they require four quarters of foreign language which makes it impossible for me to get UC reciprocity at this point. :(
