UC Transfer Paradox!

Hi guys, I am now studying at an university outside CA, but want to transfer to UCs in 2015. As I noticed that UCs give first priority to CA applicants, I am wondering if it's better for me to transfer to a CC in CA and apply transfer to UC. Will it increase my chance of getting in or should I just stay at my current school and apply?

What is your current stats? GPA, extracurric etc.

It definitely improves your chances to transfer from a California CC. If you have a specific UC you want to attend, try to attend one of the local CC’s. That’s not necessary, but it’s another plus.

I am very confused about this situation. I am now at Notre Dame, which is also a great school I think. Most people suggest me staying here and applying transfer directly from ND, but I saw UC websites saying they give priorities to transfer students from California. Which decision should I take?

If it was me, I would certainly not transfer from Notre Dame to a community college. It’s true that the UCs give priority to community college students, but personally I couldn’t justify transferring from a school ranked as highly as Notre Dame to a community college. Why don’t you like Notre Dame? You realize it’s ranked higher than all the UCs (barely, but still). I know rankings aren’t everything, but they’re something. What if you don’t get into the UC you want? Then you might be giving up a top 20 school for a much lower ranked school. Which UCs would you rather attend than Notre Dame? I think Berkeley and UCLA are the only two that I could justify transferring to from Notre Dame. What’s your GPA? I would stay put, and if you really want to, try to transfer directly. Don’t take the risk of transferring from a highly ranked school to a community college, unless you absolutely can’t take Notre Dame. I’m curious why you want to get out of there so bad.

Stay at Notre Dame, especially if the issue isn’t a financial one. The risk far outweighs any possible reward.

If you’re serious about wanting to transfer to a UC, I would advise you to attend a JC in California and then applying as a transfer student. Given that you’re already racking up units at ND, I’m sure you can apply this coming fall.
