UC-UC transfer predicament

I have been scouting around this forum and the official uc website but have only become more confused.

Classes haven't started yet at UCI, but I have been exploring a transfer to UCB. (I talked to my counselor about it, and they had completely no information.)

In my situation to be eligible, for a transfer I have figured that I need to complete the L&S(Poli Sci Maj) requirement 7 course breadth or attain UC-UC reciprocity. Question 1- Is it more advantageous to complete UC-UC reciprocity in terms of an increased preference for admission? Question 2 do I need to complete UC-UC reciprocity to be considered for admission or will they be pleased to try to take as many GE transferable courses via the L&S method(damn assist not listing for UC-UC transfers)?

And from AP tests I'm entering my first year with 56 AP credits. That means if I were to go ahead and try to fulfill UC Reciprocity, by completing the all the GE's I would be over the 120 Quarter Unit Cap for consideration(Hopefully I have a wrong perception of the GE's required). I see myself stuck it a double bind. Just complete the L&S requirement(and face a lower chance of admission) or complete UC reciprocity and risk overshooting the units cap for transfer eligibility(Is there a way to make some AP Units "Go away" or hopefully AP units wont count towards transfer credits-who knew taking AP's would hurt.)

Bottom line: What are my options to be eligible for transfer? Is there anyway out of my situation?

Not having UC to UC reciprocity will not automatically lead to a rejection. It is only highly recommended. Also, having AP units CAN NOT count against you. Whatever units you accumulate during your first year will be added to your 56 units. If all of those units go over the 120 cap, the UC’s will subtract the difference from your AP units. I hope that makes sense haha. I would suggest that you look toward completing as many of your Political Science major and breadth requirements as possible.

Alright thank you!

So if I am a freshman now, and I want to transfer in one year. I have to basically apply in the next 2 months.

But, if I am to spend 2 years at UCI, I will complete classes, then apply next fall, even though I may have not completed all of my classes at that time, I will leave a record that I will fulfill reciprocity and classes that I plan to take in the future? And I have to complete those classes by the Spring of the year I may be already accepted and moving in during the fall?
