My D got a conditional offer for a foundation program from Manchester today. Offer was for AP scores of 4 in Calc AB and Physics 2. She applying for Computer Science.
@KaffeineKitty Congrats on the offer!!
Great university. Congratulations. Tell her she will need a brolly and wellies.
Congrats to your D, @KaffeineKitty!
Thanks for the congrats. She decided to apply for the foundation year after they raised the requirement to AP Calc BC this Fall. She is currently taking Calc AB. Still waiting on Edinburgh, St. Andrews and Newcastle. She has an offer from Glasgow also.
So is the acceptance for the foundation year or no foundation year?
Durham told my daughter that she was over qualified for chemistry with foundation and under qualified (no Calculus bc) for chemistry.
Hey I just received this email from University College London:

We look forward to reviewing your application and inviting you to one of our exciting post-offer Open Days."
Is it a likely letter (like what they have in the U.S.), or is it simply a promotional email?
Not a likely letter, sorry! but you can chance yourself: do you have 5,5,5,4,4 in five AP subjects, taken in the final three years of high school, including a 5 in chem and a 5 in Bio, Calc BC or Physics? If so (and your PS and LoR are solid) you are in pretty good shape.
What a brolly?
@VickiSoCal - it is an acceptance for the foundation year- she applied for the Manchester foundation year on UCAS, and that is the program she was given an offer for and appears on UCAS.
@KaffeineKitty - An umbrella. Manchester has probably the wettest climate in England, due to its location between the Irish Sea and the Pennine Hills. This is the main reason why Manchester was the cotton spinning capital of England during the Industrial Revolution.
Congrats on all acceptances and best of luck moving forward
My D got a conditional offer for comp Sci at Edinburgh today. Came by email instructing her to go to Edinburgh portal.
UCAS track is back on-line today, so we were able to see my D’s offer for Edinburgh. They are asking for a 4 on AP Calc AB plus a high school diploma. Definitely doable for her. Hoping to hear soon from St Andrews and Newcastle and she will have responses from all 5. She applied for Computer Science (g400).
Congrats to all those with acceptances!! I was rejected from oxford already.
I don’t feel like I will get accepted any U.K. acceptances. I spent too much time on my extra curriculars and exploring different fields than studying for my AP exams. I’ve taken 10 already, and I’ll be taking another 10 AP exams this year.
My scores are eh. I got a 5 in psychology, a 4 in bio, 4 in calc AB, 4 English lang , 4 in Human, 3 in Chem (yes, ik ik ik horrible), and a 3 on the rest of my exams (histories). I’m not really sure what to expect. I applied for neuroscience. If I get rejected everywhere, i MIGHT apply for psychology; it just depends on my situation.
This year I’m taking the following AP exams:
English lit
government
calculus BC
statistics
Macroeconomics
Physics C
Principles of Comp Sci
Art 2D
Environmental
Spanish Lang.
I do want to go onto medical school, but i don’t know how important undergrad is there. Can a psych major get into med school there? I know applicants in the US don’t necessarily have to have a degree in science in order to get into medical school.
Congrats to your D, @KaffeineKitty!
@DoctorMD, medicine in the UK is not separate undergrad/grad: you go straight into med school from high school.
@collegemom3717 but could you go from undergrad to medicine in the UK?
@DoctorMD, Edinburgh offers Cognitive Science MA and BSc, you have good grades for those programs.
Congrats to your daughter, @KaffeineKitty! CS at Edi is world class!
