Yes, this is the video interview we have been discussing. It is a mandatory element of the Haas application process. The interview is recorded by you and there are no admission officers speaking with you live. Please don’t forget the deadline is today at midnight. God speed!
I had the same questions as everyone before me! Please note the timer… I fumbled in the beginning because I thought I had already started recording, so the beginning of my video lead straight to the middle of my response. It didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked, which goes to show how uncomfortable this video interview can be. I did apologize at the very end for my error and thanked them for this opportunity.
Been a long time reader, first time posting. Happy to join everyone on this thread, seems like there are many great applicants here
Conducted my video interview a few days ago (thanks to those who posted the questions, they were of much help). I’m a U.S. Army vet looking at Haas, Marshall, and Columbia School of Gen Studies for econ.
I’m excited, nervous, and anxious! And I’m sure many on here are as well. Glad to join everyone in this transfer process, look forward to the coming weeks!
I am part of the 2019 transfer class. I do not know a single person that got in without an interview, but I did hear that there were about 2 that did not have it and still got in. Our process was a little different though. We did not have to record our interview, alumni and staff conducted the interview live through an online platform.
I was going through 2019 Thread and there were some people who got an interview with 4.0 GPA but didn’t get accepted. Do you know anyone from last year?
I have been refreshing this page every day in hopes of some revolutionary information lol. Not much going on here so posting my stats.
I’m pretty anxious for decision day, but I wish everyone the best of luck. Also, did anyone’s counselor tell them to do Calc 3? I’m enrolled for spring but with all classes being online not sure how well I’m going to do. Considering taking a pass/no pass on it what have you guys heard about Haas’ view on this?
[ *] Got an interview
[ *] GPA: 3.85
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Typical retail associate during high school. I have worked at a hotel for close to 5 years now, and I have been on the management side of it for 3. (Offered position as GM but declined to focus on school.)
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: Assistant coach at a K-8th grade wrestling club for 5 years. More recently filled a position at my former high school to be an assistant coach for the high school team. My grandma works at an elderly home and I help with the house duties so she can focus on work.
[ *] Personal Statement: PIQs 9/10 but my supplemental app essays maybe 7/10 I didn’t spend enough time on them. Powerful essays about hardship, perseverance, etc. without playing the sympathy card.
[ *] School Type: CCC
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] Income Bracket: Low / Middle?
[ *] Hooks: First-gen, parents didn’t graduate HS, experience operating a business, full time work and school throughout CC
[ *] Strengths: Nothing out of the ordinary for Haas besides maybe the work experience.
[ *] Weaknesses: Feel I lack in extracurricular work and I don’t have any community service. My course work in CC was not the most rigorous. (nothing in honors)
go to Minimum Eligibility Requirements - Continuing UC Berkeley & Transfer
Completion of all prerequisite courses for a letter grade of C- or higher by the end of the Spring term prior to your anticipated start at Berkeley Haas (courses may not be more than 5 years old). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prerequisites taken during Spring 2020, may be taken pass/no pass. Taking prerequisites for pass/no pass during Spring 2020 will not affect your admission decision.
Minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units.
All prerequisite courses must carry a minimum of 3 semester or 4 quarter units
No you didn’t fail. People get in without interviews, but from reading past threads it seems more people who get in are interviewed. If you are confident in your application in its entirety (grades, essays, major prep, ECs…) and feel like you made a strong case as to why you want to study there, then I wouldn’t worry.
Hey everyone, was wondering what you guys think about taking Calc 3 to “stand out.” My counselor recommended I do this considering calc 1 and 2 are prereqs for Haas. I stated on my app that calc 3 would be completed in spring, but the class has been poorly put together in the last minute by the professor due to covid. Honestly not sure if I can pass the class like this. Would it hurt to drop the class and take something else? I have all prereqs and units completed it would really just be a time filler. Thanks.
@Abaker34 I wouldn’t worry about it personally, unless you are on Quarter system and this is your third quarter of math. Haas needs three quarters or two semesters equivalent to the “1st+2nd” semesters for entry. If you are taking the 3rd semester or 4th Quarter with multivariable operations and vectors, you are fine. That is a rough class to take in person, much less online.
Unless Math was an integral (no pun intended) part of your application/extracurriculars and was a basis for your admission then they’ll likely let it slide. It isn’t a prereq for them, nor do Haas kids have to take it. They will likely view it the same as you dropping US History or Geology…
