I just received a letter in the mail from UCB asking for verification of:

2008-2009 Independent Student Form

Income Tax Forms (for 2006)

At the bottom it states, “Upon receipt of your complete documents, we will make every effort to process your file and send you a Financial Aid Award Notification with your specific aid package within 30 days. You may visit Bear Facts at … throughout the year to stay informed about your award status.”

That sound pretty pleasing. Does the financial aid department prepare financial aids rewards separately from admissions? I would doubt they would go through all the effort and not accept you. What are your stats?

Maybe it's due to your independent status, I think the majority of us here are dependents. Though, with the mention of Bear Facts, their login system only accessible by those affiliated with UCB, it does seem to be hinting at something, however inadvertently.

I have two questions, though:

Where do you live (general area), perhaps, it has yet to arrive for the some based on transportation time.

Did you receive the approval email regarding the Cal Rental theory?

that is a VERY good sign!!! I didn't get that type of email asking for the returns and residency form until after I signed my SIR w/ Berkeley and even then it was about a week after signing it.

it's interesting to note that the f/a department often lets things kinda slip out. Last year, I was one of a few students that received an early letter from them telling me congrats and that my SIR fee would be waived. It was on the same day that decisions came out but it was 1:00 in the afternoon, decisions didn't post until after 4:00 pm, so some people didn't believe me on CC until a couple of us posted the exact same email w/ the same wording so f/a inadvertantly let us know early that we had been accepted.

Essay: Could have been better.

I called Berkeley's FAO office and the rep told me that the 2006 income tax request was wrong, they want the 2007 returns. She also said that it was a good sign of acceptance, but not official.

EKTaylor-

I had the same thoughts regarding the arrival of mail. I probably live closest to UCB (about 10-15 miles), so it seems plausible that others just haven't received it yet.

No, I didn't receive the second CalRentals e-mail and I made my request 1 day after you.

Well you definitely have the stats to get in. I'm assuming this means that you got in. Why else would they bother to get your financial records?

Yeah but the strange thing is, they don't ask for that paperwork until they are ready to put your financial aid package together. That's why I think it's a really good sign.

Pooperscooper --great name!-- my theory is that you're one of the 15% of verifications they run on accepted students. I'm getting this from the link I just posted.
