they told me last year that I was selected for verification because they always do verification on independent students, f/a knows exactly who has been accepted.... you are so in there...I can feel it!

Hmm, I'm an independent student so I guess let the compulsive mailbox checking begin!

Kal7-

I think you're right. The fact that it says "entering students" makes me smile. = ) =) = )

fijeeboi -
No, there wasn't any mention of verification until today and I filed my FAFSA on 1/21/08.

i am a firm believer in not counting your eggs before they hatch but hey.

congrats, i do think ur in =D

Yeah, unlike previous theories there's a lack of ambiguity there on the wording that's very very encouraging.

Good luck but I don't think you'll need it?

Your stats look pretty darn good.

My husband just got the same letter in the mail (he's a UCB hopeful this year), he just called me in the middle of class to tell me. He is obviously an independent student. I'm so excited!

luvtoolearn: Are you guys located in Berkeley? Stats?

Yes, since I am already a student we live in Berkeley's family student housing.
I'll ask my husband to post his stats later today since I don't know his exact GPA.
I think it's 3.7
major: sociology
essay: fantastic
EC: tons of volunteer work, long work history, first gen student, interned at UCD....etc. very disadvantaged background.
transferring from Berkeley City College

Well congrats to you guys luvtoolearn, seems like a good sign for sure.

ZOMG, I'll be eyeing the mailbox. I'm an independent in-state student and every school so far wants me to verify my income...too bad I'm in Alaska.

Well...no...not too bad. (; I just have a few days to compulsively check the mail box.

I am an independant student too. I will check my mail when I get home tonight. :)

I'm an independent and have received no such letter. I have a 3.81, community college student, competent essay. I declared an English major. Sounds like bad news for me.

Both of the recipients are in Berkeley, or very close to it. I'll be checking my mail as well.

not necessarily lopside, these letters could be sent in batches. Plus you have to factor in your mail carrier, transit time, etc. Just keep an eye out for it for the next few days.

I am now afraid to go home and check my mail :)... I live in SF.

I'm not sure they even verify independence unless you're under 24. Does anyone know about this? Luvtoolearn?

Plus, admissions hasn't even considered everyone yet. I'm sure they've still got a lot to go through.

@kal7: I've never had any requests for verifying my indepence, just requests for me to verify my income because I put down about zilch on the FAFSA. I think that's what we're talking about, independent student income verification.

I'm 30, I've been accepted to UCSD and UCSB, both with financial awards (14000 and 9200, respectively, excluding loans)... neither school has asked to verify my independent status. The waiting is interminable!

jeez...i feel like i have ants in my pants - i'm jumpy! This 24 year old independent student here would sure be more than happy to send in copies of tax returns should i have a letter waiting in the mail at home.

...I just know I won't.
